Emirates SkyCargo, a leading force in the industry drive towards e-freight, recently marked a milestone with its inaugural paperless flight. EK702, from Mauritius to Dubai, became the first flight on its global network to operate with a hold filled entirely with shipments which had been processed electronically.The Boeing 777-300ER, with a belly-hold capacity of 23 tonnes, transported a diverse load, including bank notes, flowers, fruits such litchis, clothing, textiles and courier items.

Lanka IOC has rewarded nearly 300 children from low income families in Mullaitivu who recently enrolled in the company’s ‘Go Green’ programme, an innovative eco-friendly initiative under which tree saplings are planted and cared for by school children.Lanka IOC enlisted the services of 290 children from 29 schools in the Mullaitivu and Thunukkai areas for the latest phase of the project, increasing the number of direct beneficiaries from the ‘Go Green’ initiative to 1301.

SriLankan Airlines won the Travel & Tourism category at the recent Effie Awards for its ‘Hotseats’ marketing campaign, the latest accolade received by the National Carrier. SriLankan received a Bronze for the campaign, which was produced by Grant McCann Erickson. It was the highest award presented in the Travel & Tourism category, and one of just 16 awards - 5 Silvers and 11 Bronzes - presented at the Effies ceremony at the Waters’ Edge, from among nearly 100 entries.
A State Agency established to manage State Enterprises 27-December-2010
Sri Lanka has established a State Agency to manage several defunct State Enterprises. Six state-owned enterprises will be brought under the newly established State Resource Management Company. These State Enterprises are the Embilipitiya Paper Corporation, Kantale Sugar Factory, Lanka Ceramic, Mawanella Rubber Factory, BCC Lanka, and the State Handicraft retail chain Salu Sala.

Asia Capital PLC today announced the achievement of Rs. 222 million net profits for the year ending March 2010. More than 12,700 policyholders of Ceylinco Life received Rs 340 million in settled claims in the first nine months of 2010, Sri Lanka’s life insurance market leader has disclosed. The value of claims paid out in this period reflects an increase of 12 per cent over the Rs 303.5 million paid out in the corresponding nine months of 2009, the company said.
