Sri Lanka has established a State Agency to manage several defunct State Enterprises. Six state-owned enterprises will be brought under the newly established State Resource Management Company. These State Enterprises are the Embilipitiya Paper Corporation, Kantale Sugar Factory, Lanka Ceramic, Mawanella Rubber Factory, BCC Lanka, and the State Handicraft retail chain Salu Sala.

Lanka IOC has rewarded nearly 300 children from low income families in Mullaitivu who recently enrolled in the company’s ‘Go Green’ programme, an innovative eco-friendly initiative under which tree saplings are planted and cared for by school children.Lanka IOC enlisted the services of 290 children from 29 schools in the Mullaitivu and Thunukkai areas for the latest phase of the project, increasing the number of direct beneficiaries from the ‘Go Green’ initiative to 1301.
SriLankan Airlines won the Travel & Tourism category at the recent Effie Awards for its ‘Hotseats’ marketing campaign, the latest accolade received by the National Carrier. SriLankan received a Bronze for the campaign, which was produced by Grant McCann Erickson. Asia Capital PLC today announced the achievement of Rs. 222 million net profits for the year ending March 2010. This is a complete turnaround for the group of companies compared to a Rs. 379.2 million loss in the year 2009.The operations for 2010 showed a decline in cost of sales which resulted in this profit even though the revenue figures have seen a drop compared to the same period in 2009.

The apex body in directing the ICT permeation in the country, the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka, was the main facilitator and driving force behind the introduction of the Sinhala Language Interface Pack for Windows 7. This is part of the SLASSCOM capacity building initiative to bring Jaffna students to mainstream IT/ BPO industry. The students visited IFS, Virtusa, MIT, eCollege, Cinergix Research and Sabre Technologies during their stay in Colombo.
