Samaposha energizes six country AFC U-13 tournament for the fourth time

For the fourth time Samaposha, flagship brand of Plenty Foods (Pvt.) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL), is sponsoring the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under 13 tournament.

In earlier instances this event was staged as a friendly football festival but for the first time in 2012 it will become a fully-fledged tournament with matches being worked off from 10-14 March at the Police Park Grounds in Colombo.

The event is being organized by the AFC in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Football Federation and will involve six countries. Bhutan, Iran, Jordan, India and Palestine as well as host Sri Lanka will be these nations.

On the sidelines of the tournament a special training camp will be held for which trainers, physiotherapists, coaches, umpires and team managers from visiting teams can participate. It is also open to football players, coaches and physiotherapists from around Sri Lanka who will have a chance to gain an international experience right at home.

The tournament will be conducted according to the league system where all teams will have to play against each other and the country that obtains the highest number of points will emerge as the winner.

Samaposaha has had a close association with football in Sri Lanka and have supported and nurtured the under 13 national football interschool championship for over 4 years.

“I see a strong connection between Samaposha and football. This is a game that requires lots of stamina and Samaposha is a product that gives a high level of nutrition. Plenty Foods is dedicated to providing the best and freshest agriculture food to the public and that is our long term goal,” said Plenty Foods Director/ CEO Mr.Shammi Karunaratna.

Samaposha is supporting this endeavor to provide a learning experience to both male and female football players in Sri Lanka noted Plenty Foods Assistant General Manager - Marketing Mr. Vasantha Chandrapala adding “I am confident that through this tournament our players will have a the chance to gain international level experience and emerge as stars.”

Samaposha is made completely from grains grown in Sri Lanka and directly purchased by Plenty Foods through a special programme. Soya, green gram, rice and corn are bought by the company from over 8 000 rural farmers, which provides a ready and fair market for their produce.
