Ganaka Amarasinghe appointed as the new president - AATSL

Ganaka Amarasinghe who was admitted to membership of the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (AATSL) in 1988 at the inaugural convocation of the institute has now been elected as the 7th President for the term 2012-2013.

Ganaka Amarasinghe selected the finance and accounting field as his career path immediately on completion of his school education, and became a Fellow Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka (FMAAT), the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (FCA) and also the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (FCMA) within a short period. He graduated from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.

He has gained experience in the fields of finance, accounting and business for over twenty five years in both the private sector as well as in the government sector organizations where he has held several senior positions for a significant period. Today he has risen up the career ladder as Managing Director of a well known Sri Lankan conglomerate, the Raigam Group. He has been with the Raigam Group since 1999. Ganaka Amarasinghe is also a Director of Puttalam Salt Limited.

Apart from his professional and business engagements, he has played an active role in the academic field in the faculty of the University of Ruhuna, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) and the Institute of Accounting Studies since 1990. There are thousands of students and graduates guided by him.

He has contributed extensively to the accounting profession in Sri Lanka as a member of the Governing Councils of AATSL (2006 – 2009) and CA Sri Lanka (2008 – 2011). As a member of the Governing Council of AATSL he chaired committees of Education, Training, Information Technology, CPD and other sub committees. He has also discharged his responsibilities as the chairman of the Library, Education and Curriculum Development committees of CA Sri Lanka and as a member of Disciplinary, Investment and Buildings Committees.

Ganaka Amarasinghe has also served as a member of the panel of judges for Presidential Awards on Tourism Industry in Sri Lanka and National Exports Awards.

He is a past pupil of Pathegama North Kanishta Vidyalaya – Matara, Sri Jayawardhanepura Maha Vidyalaya – Kotte and Lumbini Vidyalaya – Colombo.
