Languidly lying just about 14km north of city of Trincomalee, Nilaveli is home to a long stretch of beach with pearly white coral sand and shallow waters that allow one to wade out to sea for hundreds of feet in some areas. Cradled on the lap of a virgin sweep of beach here, Oceanfront Condos is a hideaway from the rest of the world; a place where gurgling waves wakes one up to day upon day of sun kissed bliss.

The very first beach-front, serviced, luxury, leisure apartments of its kind in the island, Oceanfront Condos homes 81 condominiums in total. The first phase of the apartment contract is to be completed by September 2017; this means the event of handing over keys to its owners is almost at hand. Boasting of large living spaces that blend with its gorgeous natural surroundings, with each condominium enjoying views of the Indian Ocean from both the living and bedrooms, the Condos are an ideal investment for a discerning few who understand the necessity to have a home away from home; a home to just throw the feet up and unwind by the beach.

What makes the model of Oceanfront Condos’ operations convenient is that once the apartment is purchased and furnished by the owner, the Company acts as a facilitator for condominium rentals. While owners go about their life, the Company manages and lets out the condominiums on rent, thus enabling the owner parties to earn an additional income from their holiday beach-front homes.

Oceanfront Condos features a swimming pool, a gymnasium, and a café within its precincts. It is also comfortably located just a 20 minute boat ride away from the Pigeon Island Marine National Park with its jeweled coral gardens and 300 types of reef fish that makes it a snorkelers’ and divers’ paradise.
Oceanfront Condos’ close proximity to Trincomalee makes it a viable hub to visit. Its natural harbor, Konesvaram temple and Fort Frederick are some interesting sites here. Another attraction, of course, is whale watching at the harbor. Potential buyers are invited to visit the property and its fully furnished show apartment this holiday season, to inspect and explore the value of this Nilaveli beachfront investment. Visit to www.oceanfrontnilaveli.com to get more details.

Located on a beautiful slice of paradise flaunting vibrantly colored sunrises, Oceanfront Condos offers intimate moments with nature, blissful solitude, and a hassle free opportunity to earn an additional income. Do not miss the opportunity to reserve your very own apartment with the best view of the ocean.

Osteoarthritis, which causes pain and joint stiffness, impacts a significant proportion of the Sri Lankan population and is a leading cause of disability mainly among women. The disease is characterized by degeneration of cartilage and its underlying bone within a joint as well as bone overgrowth. Disease onset is gradual and usually begins after the age of 40.

The treatment of knee Osteoarthritis is still a challenge due to the poor self-regeneration capacity of cartilage. Nonsurgical interventions such as weight control, symptomatic treatments (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), prolotherapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy have been sought after for the treatment of knee Osteoarthritis to increase tissue healing and to slow down the progression of degeneration.

Being the pioneer in Sri Lanka to introduce platelet-rich plasma (PRP) knee rehabilitation therapy, the Durdans Orthopaedics medical team utilizes a comprehensive technique which includes a combination of healing factors to treat many orthopedic conditions, including knee Osteoarthritis and other soft tissue injuries involving tendons and ligaments. PRP is commonly used in conjunction with Stem Cell Therapy. The number of injections and length of time needed for the regenerative healing process vary based on the extent of the injury.

“PRP injections cause positive, beneficial, and healing cellular changes in the joint environment. These changes help move the knee from degenerative knee disease to a healing and regenerating knee joint. Healing includes: regeneration of articular cartilage, increasing the volume of natural knee lubricants, and waking up the stem cells present in the knee to assist in the transformation to healing environment. This treatment is ideal for patients who want to avoid surgery and the resulting downtime,” said Dr. Ashan Abeywardena, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Durdans.

In addition to the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, arthroscopically assisted procedures which only require small incisions are also available at Durdans Centre for Orthopaedics, giving both professional athletes and sports enthusiasts another mean to get back to their chosen activities more quickly.

Certain holidays are known for their sweet treats, and Avurudu is one of the biggest. Though the Avurudu Kama Mesayas with trays of delicious sweetmeats and other tasty treats are dearly loved, the damage they can cause to a smile is undeniable.

Children are no different than most of us this time of year; they eat more sweets and snacks than usual, and healthy habits are at risk of falling by the wayside. During the holiday season, a child’s usual schedule is often disrupted by travel, visitors, and changes in school schedule. This can impact their healthy routine for brushing too.

“There is a continuing need for us as a population to understand that, the increase in consumption of sugary foods and drinks is one of the fundamental reasons for dental decay in children. Dental caries or Tooth decay is the most common chronic disease of childhood. Dental caries, periodontal diseases, and other oral conditions, if left untreated, can lead to pain, infection, and loss of function. These undesirable outcomes can adversely affect learning, interfere with eating and adequate nutritional intake, speaking, self-esteem, and daily activities.” said Dr. Madhanga Chandrasekara, Resident Dental Surgeon at Durdans Hospital.

Durdans believes in the importance of having a dental practice where children can have an ongoing relationship with the dentist to ensure comprehensive, accessible and coordinated care in a family-centered way. The team at Durdans Dental Care focuses a lot of attention on parent education and advocate for healthy eating habits since diet and nutrition play such an integral role in dental health.

Dental care is available to children and adults at Durdans all year round. Durdans dental services include preventive and restorative care; treatment of periodontal (gum) disease, extractions, fillings, crowns, bridges and implants; oral surgery, emergency care, and correction of misaligned teeth or Orthodontics.

Pickme3.jpg

PickMe; Sri Lanka’s home grown technology based taxi hailing service is well into its second successful year of operations.  Whilst they have expanded their network and introduced more user friendly features to their app, their success story lies not just in their daily increasing fleet but their young and dynamic staff.  PickMe is the ideal place for techno geeks i.e. app developers to let loose their skills.

The Company is constantly on the lookout for talented young people who can find ways to make their App even smarter. As a tech based operation PickMe, gives priority to young people who are skilled in developing software.  When the Company first launched the hailing service with their app, there had been only 15 people on their staff and they achieved the goal of becoming a credible, established service in a very short time.

Another significant aspect about PickMe is that they are not looking for highly qualified app developers when they are looking to recruit. According to CEO, Zulfer Jiffrey all comers are welcome provided they make the cut. “Qualifications are just a piece of paper, what matters is their attitude, aptitude, willingness to innovate and learn on the job.” PickMe provides opportunity to school leavers as well as Degree holders, and has the right environment and infrastructure to guide and encourage them.

Some of the PickMe staffers were eager to speak about the opportunities they had to advance themselves within the Company. Rishoban Jeevamohan, who started out as a beta passenger, joined PickMe as a Customer Communications Executive. “I used to give feedback and reviews regarding the app and then the company approached me and asked if I was interested in taking up a job in communications and I took the opportunity,” he says.  According to Keshan Fernando who is a software engineer, PickMe for a one year old start-up has grown rapidly.  “We keep working towards taking the Company to the next level.  We are given many opportunities to grow with the company.  Regular appraisals and the training we get help us to succeed in our career.  The culture is friendly and the management respects the ideas of employees, which motivates us to do more. Apart from work, we have so much fun together. I believe PickMe is one of the best places to work in Sri Lanka!”

App developers are not the only happy staffers at PickMe. Zulfer says that there is a common misconception that PickMe is a place for tech-wiz’s and IT professionals. “That is far from the truth, technology plays only a 50% role in the business.  Operational activities are of equal importance.”

This is further confirmed by staff members who say that company operations are a ‘nice mix.’ They believe that the success of their app is due to giving the operations side of the business equal importance, as the satisfaction of their passengers and drivers has helped the PickMe’s rapid growth.  Whilst the Tech side of the Company works year round to fix bugs and introduce more user friendly features to the app, the operations sector works hard to maintain high service and security standards for both passengers and drivers.

Given the relaxed yet lively office atmosphere, all of PickMe’s employees seem to love their jobs. “I really love my job and enjoy working here, I want to work here for as long as I can,” says Neerja Vimaleswaran, a Software Quality Assurance Engineer. She says as a woman in what is considered a male dominated industry; she does not feel unequal to her male co-workers. “I don’t feel any gender inequality here; everyone is just equal.” Neerja who joined as an intern during PickMe’s beginning days, says the interactive and common work setup is a great plus factor for the staff.

The Company’s goal is to provide employees with a work experience where they could learn develop and give back to the Company by helping to create positive change.  The CEO says, “When you join a large entity you don’t see the entire picture as there are so many departments and you are confined to just the one part.  Whereas at a smaller entity like ours, they get to understand the many aspects of the business; how it operates and how it grows, and become part of that growth.”  He adds that anyone willing to learn and is interested in building a career from scratch, be they techno geeks or operational people; PickMe is a good place to start Creating the right work culture for the young and dynamic.
