The Ja-Ela Toastmasters Club has launched a membership drive to improve public speaking and communication skills of youth and employees in the corporate sector. The creator of the Ja-Ela Toastmasters Club Anura Perera said that enrolments towards this initiative are now open. “We are keen to woo youth and employees in the corporate sector especially in Kanadana and Ja-Ela areas. The club has been operational since 2017 and public speaking programs are regularly conducted at second floor Reality Plaza, Headway school language centre Ja- Ela. These are contacted on every second Saturday and fourth Saturday from 5 pm to 7 p.m. and we invite new members to come on these days and join us.” He said.

Toastmasters International is a world leader in developing communication and leadership skills and has a membership of nearly 350,000. Members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 15,900 club locations in 142 countries that make up the global network. “We need youngsters who will be future leaders to join our club,” Anura Perera said. He is now based in Canada and hosting Toastmasters workshops as well. District 82 is thrilled to announce its dedicated team of leaders for the 2023-2024 Toastmasters year, igniting a journey of growth and achievement. Toastmasters International, a global nonprofit that nurtures public speaking and leadership skills worldwide, is guided by the principle of “Where leaders are made.” Founded in 1924 and headquartered in Colorado, it has expanded to 148 countries. Members gain confidence and achieve communication goals through speeches, impromptu talks, and supportive feedback in a nurturing environment, all while enhancing their leadership skills. District 82 represents the Toastmasters community in Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and the British Indian Ocean Territory, fostering excellence with 3.4K+ members across 150+ clubs in 60+ cities, with over 30 years since its establishment.

The District Trio, consisting of District Director Mahinda Karunakara, DTM (former Registrar of the Ceylon Electricity Board); Program Quality Director Ganga Fernando, DTM (Senior Lecturer attached to the University of Colombo); and Club Growth Director Niroshan Nadarajah, DTM (Senior Manager of Brand Marketing at Renuka Holdings PLC), will join forces to expand the district, provide club support, deliver training, and equip leaders for success.

These leaders include Niroshan Dharmakantha (DTM), Kanapathippillai Pirabakaran (DTM), Mohamed Fawaz Jainudeen (DTM), Raveen Lankanatha, Hiranthi Ratnayake (DTM), Shehara Dissanayake (DTM), Dushyanthi Adikary (DTM), Thakshila Jayasena, Royston Cumine (DTM), Oshan Liyanage (DTM), and Methsiri Herath.

Area Directors and the dedicated team of extended leaders play a pivotal role in supporting district operations.

District 82, with experienced leaders and enthusiastic individuals, sets sail on a transformative journey, charting a course toward growth, knowledge, and achievement in the promising year ahead.

September 4, 2023: The Youth leadership Program (YLP), organised by the Negombo Speakers Forum Toastmasters, invites all ambitious and energetic young aspiring individuals and potential future leaders between ages 14 to 18 from the Negombo area and its suburbs, to join a 10-week journey to explore and unlock their fullest potential in public speaking.

The program will kick off for 10 consecutive Saturdays from the third week of September, from 6-8pm at the Maris Stella College – Old Boys Association Center, and will allow participants to develop self-evaluation techniques for improved speaking abilities, master in speech preparation and delivery, excel in impromptu speeches, hone voice, vocabulary and gesture control, as well as learn the art of constructive feedback.

Moreover, participants will also have access to printed resources supplied by the Toastmasters International, to essentially support the participants with theoretical knowledge. The program is also well supported by the resource personnel from the global Toastmasters fraternity, where the participants would be thoroughly guided across an exciting and entertaining journey of public speaking.

Toastmasters International is a recognized global non-profit educational organization that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of promoting communication, public speaking, and leadership. Possessing a strong rooted community of members within Sri Lanka, Toastmasters have been extended to unfathomable heights and areas within the island. In this chapter of revolution, the Youth Leadership Program proposed to commence in Negombo is one of the unique opportunities for the multi-talented youth.
