The SLASSCOM People Summit 2024, organized by the SLASSCOM HR Forum at WatersEdge on March 13th, brought together industry leaders, experts, and practitioners to discuss current workplace challenges. Speakers from various sectors shared emerging trends and innovative HR strategies, inspiring attendees to drive positive organizational change through interactive discussions and insightful sessions.

 



 

The summit began with the CXO Breakfast and Conference, focusing on fostering innovation within organizations. Angelo De Silva, Founder, Managing Director, and Principal Consultant of Sandbox, presented on “Nurturing Talent within Generational Workforces,” sharing practical strategies for leveraging the diverse capabilities of multi-generational employees, including enhancing communication, leadership development, and talent retention.

Prakhar Tripathi, Partner at Deloitte South Asia, highlighted the importance of agility, innovation, and adaptability in “Building a Future-Ready Organization” at the CXO Breakfast. He also explored transformative shifts in traditional HR functions during his “The Future of HR Roles” discussion at the Conference.

Sampath Jayasundara, CEO of PeoplesHR and hSenid Business Solutions PLC, addressed “Collaborative Innovation in the Digital Age,” exploring strategies for fostering collaboration and embracing emerging technologies to drive innovation across teams.

Roland Smith, Director, and Mariam Omar, Head of Corporate Communications at Brandix, delivered a presentation on the critical subject of “Employee Advocacy and Employer Branding for Impact” and outlined their significant role in shaping organizational culture.

Ricky License, Senior Manager of Talent Acquisition at Wiley, discussed the opportunities and challenges of integrating AI into recruitment practices, whilst Chandima Cooray, Co-founder of Ayubo.life, highlighted the importance of outcome-driven wellness programs, focusing on clear objectives, evidence-based interventions, and technology-enabled progress tracking.

Lalitha Kapur, Australian Deputy High Commissioner, stressed the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion for driving innovation. Stephen Keys, Chief Talent Officer at IFS, discussed the societal impact of reskilling and upskilling, focusing on narrowing organisation skill gaps.

A Fireside Chat titled “Money Matters: Hear it from the Experts” had Prasanjith Wijayatilake, Executive Director of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka, offering perspectives on investment and economic development, that was moderated by Dhananath Fernando, CEO of Advocata Institute. The event concluded with a panel discussion, “Unlocking the Power of the Gig Economy,” .The panel included Sandra De Zoysa, Group Chief Customer Officer at Dialog Axiata PLC & Director of Dialog Business Services, Shanaka Fernando, Board Director and General Manager – Human Resources at WNS, Rukshani Malewana, Director/CEO at Hayleys Business Solutions, and Angelo De Silva, Founder, Managing Director and Principal Consultant at Sandbox. Shane Ferdinandus, Corporate Training Consultant and Behavioral Change Coach at Luminary Learning Solutions facilitated the panel, ensuring a dynamic and insightful discussion.

Colombo, Sri Lanka: Virtusa Sri Lanka honored its top performers and long-service employees at a gala awards night held recently at Waters Edge, Battaramulla. The winners comprised of 129 employees who completed 10, 15, 20+ and 25+ years of service at the company, and 60 top performers who were recognized for excelling in delivery and shared services, and their contribution to the company’s globally benchmarked customer satisfaction.

All nominees are evaluated against category-specific criteria by a cross-functional human resource and operations panel.

– Theme for 2022/2023 Launched along with AYDA Website

Monday, August 8th 2022, Colombo; The Asia Young Designer Awards – Sri Lanka 2021/2022 winners were felicitated recently at a colorful ceremony at the Water’s Edge, Battaramulla. AYDA which was launched in 2008 is aimed at inspiring Architectural and Interior Design students to develop their skills through cross-learning opportunities and networking with key industry players as well as fellow Architectural and Interior Design peers in the region. AYDA is organised by Nippon Paint Lanka in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA).

Dihan Dhamika Inshan became the Gold Winner in the Architectural Category with his project titled, ‘Waste Upcycling Park and Wetland Awareness Center’ while Ms. W.D. Iwanthi Dharmapala won the Silver Award in the Interior Design Category with the project titled, ‘Major Design Project – Timber Craft Center’.

“The awards have grown in terms of reach and stature since they were introduced in 2008 and have now been established as one of Asia’s premier design awards,” said Nemantha Abeysinghe, General Manager, Nippon Paint Lanka. “More than 35,000 entries from over 1,200 tertiary education institutions across 16 different geographical locations in Asia have been received to date. Third- and fourth-year students from the City School of Architecture (CSA), University of Moratuwa (UOM), General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), and the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLITT) compete for the awards in the architectural and interior design categories. Gold winners from both categories are eligible to participate in the international competition.” The occasion also saw the launch of the theme for the 2022/2023 AYDA Awards along with the launch of the AYDA website.

Renowned Architect and Planner, Deshamanya Dr. Surath Wickremasinghe was the Chief Guest at the AYDA 2021/2022 Awards Ceremony. Other distinguished guests included Nemantha Abeysinghe, General Manager, Nippon Paint Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, Architect Russell Dandeniya, President SLIA, Architect Rohana Bandara Herath, Senior Vice President SLIA, the Official Jury Panel for AYDA Sri Lanka 2021/2022, and the Heads of participating universities.

Commenting on the awards, SLIA President Architect Russell Dandeniya said, “Young architects are our future. They are the people who are envisioning new ideas, new thoughts, and adding new and innovative design initiatives with technology. AYDA is a wonderful platform and forum for them to showcase their beautiful ideas and innovative thoughts, giving a great pulse and momentum for the future of our architecture. That is why architecture is evolving day by day. Asia represents 52.7% of the world population. We are the most trending part of the world, with great opportunities and tremendous exposure. AYDA is a wonderful opportunity for young architects to collaborate with their peers, particularly in connecting with other architects in the region.”

Sri Lanka’s premier culinary and entertainment hub Waters Edge, together with Melchers Project Management Pte Ltd today announced plans to build a theme park overlooking the waters of the Diyawannna. The press conference to announce the plans were held under the patronage of Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka, Chairman of Waters Edge Chamath de Silva, General Manager of Waters Edge, Rohan Fernandopulle and representatives of Melchers.

Fantasy Land Waters Edge

Speaking at the press conference Chairman Chamath de Silva said, “In an attempt to become the premier entertainment hub of this nation Waters Edge together with Melchers Project Management Pte Ltd, will create a theme park which will be family-oriented and a place where children and adults can enjoy themselves on state-of-the-art attractions.”

Fantasy Island at the Edge will feature a culmination of the three main elements of air, water and land. The Giant Ferris Wheel will take revelers to the skies, while the water park will include thrilling rides and the snow chalet will take you to an ice kingdom of wonder.

The initiative of the entertainment hub and theme park is the vision of Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka and part of the Megapolis Developmet plan. The project will be carried out under the direct supervision of Chairman of Waters Edge Chamath de Silva.

Bringing many a dream to life the Snow Chalet will be built to German Technology and will provide an unique indoor snow experience. Meanwhile the water park is designed so that even a non-swimmer can enjoy the slides, waterfalls, water climbs, surprise fountains and so much more.

The 40-meter high Ferris Wheel will be one of the main attractions at the Fantasy Island with a viewing tower that will provide a bird’s eye view of the Sri Lankan coastline as well as the central hills. This attraction has no age restrictions and a typical ride will be a fun-filled 15 minutes. Visible from anywhere in Colombo, this will truly be the “main attraction” at the theme park.

With a capacity to hold 300 children per time the water park will also be ideal for school excursions and even birthday parties. The Snow Chalet meanwhile can hold up to 50 children per time for a completely novel experience.

The development project aims to create a recreation, leisure and sports facility on the far side of the water front. The center will facilitate more adventure sports such as kayaking, rowing and wind surfing among many others. This project will be coordinated and supervised by the Strategic Initiatives Department of Waters Edge.

Colombo, Tuesday 21st November 2017: Christmas is a season full of joy, laughter and family time. It is also holiday season for the kids and if you are a parent, grandparent or care-giver, the holiday season can definitely seem a little overwhelming especially when you have to keep the kids occupied. To counter this dilemma, Sri Lanka’s favourite entertainment hub Waters Edge is giving kids and parents an opportunity to enjoy the largest kiddies Christmas party in the island for the fifth consecutive year.

In previous years the Grand Lawn at Waters Edge has been transformed to a Winter Wonderland, Santa’s Workshop and a Land of the Elves. This year a traditional Christmas Village will come alive with all the festivities. On the 3rd of December, the beautifully landscaped Grand Lawn will be “The Kiddies Christmas Village” where a merry-go-round, carnival Ferris wheel, bouncy castles, toy trains and tons of fun activities like water walkers and zorb balls will keep kids occupied for hours on end.

And then there’s the galore of Christmas goodies turned out by the award winning culinary team at Waters Edge for the kids to enjoy once they’ve worked up an appetite. There’ll be savouries and sweet treats all colourful and Christmas themed laid out in one of the largest buffets in the country. This year’s overboard buffet spread will feature rainbow sandwiches, colourful stuffed eggs, mini corn dogs, crab croquettes, assorted éclairs and macaroons, chocolate trees, mini Yule logs, Christmas cookies and cupcakes and the all important chocolate fountain. Action stations serving up piping hot French Fries and Sausages and typical carnival treats like Candy Floss and Ice-Cream will keep the parents busy too.

The highlight of the party will be Santa’s arrival on a sea-plane. He will bring with him bags of goodies for each and every kiddy regardless of whether they have been naughty or nice this year.

The grand Christmas experience will be priced at Rs. 2,600 nett per guest. Kids below 4 years of age will walk in free of charge. The event will be held on Sunday, 3rd of December from 3.30 PM to 6.30 PM at the Grand Lawn, Waters Edge. Parents who wish for their kids to receive a present from Santa may drop the gifts off at Waters Edge on or before the 30th of November 2017.
