28 December 2017, Colombo – In a strategic move to diversify into the IT solutions domain, Lanka Century Investments PLC. (LCI), a conglomerate reputed for its market dominance in manufacturing, real estates and strategic investments, announced today that it has completed the acquisition of the global IT enterprise solutions provider, Millennium Information Technologies Pvt. Ltd., (MillenniumIT ESP).  Under the terms of the agreement, LCI will acquire a 100% stake of MillenniumIT ESP from London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) with management and shareholding control. As part of this acquisition agreement, LCI will also enter into a wider ownership plan with the employees of MillenniumIT ESP giving them an equity stake and enabling them to play a significant role in shaping the company’s future as owner managers.   LSEG will retain full ownership of MillenniumIT Software, the trading technology and software development component of the business.

With over 3200 employees, the LCI Group, is reputed for its market dominance in manufacturing, real estate and strategic investments. Through LCI’s various investments and restructuring the Group has grown to become a medium sized, diversified conglomerate. The acquisition of MillenniumIT ESP is part of the Group’s Vison 2020 strategy designed to deliver strong global growth.  This acquisition is expected to boost the Groups’ effort to revamp and rebuild a sustainable future-oriented conglomerate geared to take on the tech-oriented business opportunities available in global markets.

Calamander Unawatuna Beach is celebrating Christmas with an array of dining, shopping and entertainment events for the weekofthe festive season from 23rd December to 31st December.

Calamander Unawatuna Beach has organized a Christmas market and invited all the local crafts sellers, shop owners and food and beverage sellers to enjoy the benefits of displaying and selling their products to a wide range of local and foreign tourists who flock to Unawatuna over Christmas.

The Commercial Bank of Ceylon commemorated the festive season with its annual, trilingual carol service, themed ‘Miracle in a manger’ this year. A 35-member choir accompanied by eight musicians, also staff of Bank, entertained guests at the Bishop’s College Auditorium recently. The Choir was trained and conducted this year by Mr. Shehan Wijemanne, a veteran musician. The popular local artiste Mr. Janaka Palapathwala was the guest performer.

Rev. Fr. Freely Muthukudaarachchi, the Rector of St. Aloysious’ Seminary, Colombo, graced the service and delivered the Christmas message. The event was attended by Commercial Bank’s Chairman, Mr. Dharma Dheerasinghe, members of the corporate and senior management, and by a large gathering of staff members, ex staff members, and their families. Under the theme of “Meal to Remember”, Chinese Dragon Café took the initiative in a CSR activity providing lunch for children at Preethipura children’s home and milk powder to its infant home at Hendala.

A friendly get-together was held for all employees of Chinese Dragon Café at the head office premises at 280, Canal Road, Hendala, Wattala. Employees who have completed 10 to 20 years received accolades, anniversary plaques, certificates and cash prizes while who have a serviced for 5 to 10 years received certificates and anniversary plaques whereas all employees received 75th anniversary plaques.

The CEO of the Colombo Stock Exchange Mr. Rajeeva Bandaranaike recently joined leaders from the global capital market and business fraternity at the ‘London Global Convention – 2017’ on Corporate Governance & Sustainability, which was organized by the Institute Of Directors India.

The Convention aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the individual elements that combine to create an effective corporate governance framework, as well as to provide thought leadership, on a number of topical issues of Governance and Sustainability. The event was attended by leaders, policy advisors, academicians, jurists, social thinkers, and professionals in business, finance, corporate governance, and sustainability, from across the world.

The ‘Corporate Governance at Crossroads: Global Trends & Perspectives’ segment at the Convention featured thought leadership and perspective from CSE CEO Mr. Rajeeva Bandaranaike and Mr. Nikhil Rathi CEO at the London Stock Exchange, Mr. Mats Isaksson the Head – Corporate Affairs Division at OECD, Mr. Ashish Saraf Joint Managing Director at Ferro Alloys Corporation and Dr. M. Cuneyt Sezgin Board Member and Chairman of the Sustainability Committee at Garanti Bank S.A. Turkey.
