Renewable energy convenor questions Minister Kabir’s statement on bid pricing

Rajitha Abeygunasekera, General Secretary of Sri Lanka Blue Green Alliance (LBN)

Says transparency and bid procurement insecure, post parliamentary comment

The Sri Lanka Blue Green Alliance an alliance that promotes sustainable energy and community welfare, held a press briefing at the Sri Lanka National Library Auditorium bringing to light their perspectives into investments into Renewable Energy in Sri Lanka.

Rajitha Abeygunasekera, the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Blue Green Alliance stated ‘The main aim of our organization is to promote green economy and green energy. It is vital that we as an island nation utilise our natural resources to the greatest extent. Renewable energy is of utmost importance with regards to this.

There were many items discussed in parliament regarding this recently.

The Honorary Mr. Kabir Hashim has asked in parliament for the Adani Group’s 500MW project to be delayed since the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has called for tenders for a 50 MW project to be added to the national grid. Mr. Hashim has stated that he learned of a proposed unit price of 7 cents (USD) through these tenders. Mr. Kabir Hashim’s statement poses risks. There’s both a potential loss of the 500MW project as well as a threat to bidder confidence in our procurement procedures for the 50MW project with a price reveal as such. This statement appears to be a mere political maneuver, lacking substance. Consequently, the Blue-Green Alliance views it as unfounded and detrimental for the citizens of the country”.

As the Sri Lanka Blue Green Alliance continues to spearhead meaningful dialogues and advocate for progressive policies, its collective voice resonates with hope and determination.
