Education Ministry Advisor Dr. C. R. Abrar said, technical education needs to be integrated with mainstream education. Because technical education is being underestimated, this education system is being called a factory for making mechanics. We need to get out of this kind of negative perception.
The advisor made these remarks at a Seminar titled ‘Improving the Quality of Technical Education: Possibilities and Dos and Don’ts in a Global Context’ at the auditorium of the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka on 28 April 2025 Monday.
The advisor said, “Technical education has been neglected for a long time, and structural reforms are needed here. There is a major shortage of trade-based teachers in educational institutions. There is a lack of necessary skills and new technology. To overcome these, steps must be taken to make technical education more inclusive.”
He said that despite having received education, many people are unemployed and jobs cannot be arranged for them. Emphasis should be placed on technical education as an alternative.
The students went through a trauma in the July movement, so there will be differences in behavior. The education advisor commented that normal behavior cannot be expected from everyone. In this case, he said that they should be taught a lesson by explaining it to them and lovingly.
He further said, “We are going through a difficult time. We all need to be patient in this regard. We need to present our demands with respect. At the same time, we need to create a space for dialogue.”
The program was presided over by Dr. Kh. M. Kabirul Islam, Secretary, Technical and Madrasa Education Department. Siddique Jobayer, Secretary, Secondary and Higher Education Department, Ms. Nasrin Afroz, Chairman (Secretary) of the National Skill Development Authority, and Shoaib Ahmed Khan, Director General, Directorate of Technical Education, were present as special guests
