To celebrate Vesak which denotes the birth, enlightenment and death of Lord Buddha, Citizens Development Business Finance PLC (CDB) organized a week-long celebration at its Head Office premises from the 12th of May, which was the date of Vesak Poya Day. These annual celebrations, held for more than ten years, include a lantern competition, a Bhakthi Gee, and a Dansala within the CDB Vesak Kalapaya. Hundreds of people stopped by to enjoy the singing, lanterns on display, and Dansala food served by the CDB Team.
In a good example of team camaraderie, the team members from the Head Office and branches joined in the festivities – singing, distributing food and participating in the lantern competition. Members from Team CDB designed and made lanterns using sustainable materials, taking CDB’s eco-consciousness and commitment to reduce their carbon footprint to heart. These lanterns also showed the viewing public that just as lanterns are a beautiful part of Vesak decorations, they can be made with materials that minimise waste and do not harm the environment.
An added attraction to the harmonious songs rendered by Team CDB’s Bhakthi Gee group was the presence of renowned musician and singer Jagath Wickramasinghe who joined in as a special guest. The Bhakthi Gee proved to be the perfect accompaniment to the Noodles Dansala, served to the public gathered by team members, who also enjoyed engaging conversations with those who visited the Vesak Kalapaya.
