17th June 2025, Colombo: Vision Care, Sri Lanka’s largest provider of vision, hearing, and eyewear solutions, proudly partnered with the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association (SLSHA) as the main sponsor of the 58th Inter District Combined Schools Hockey Tournament 2025. The prestigious four-day event, held at the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation Astro Turf, featured 23 teams representing districts across the island.

As part of this impactful partnership, Vision Care went beyond financial sponsorship by organizing a mobile eye screening camp at the tournament venue. Free vision checks were offered to all participating athletes and match officials—reinforcing Vision Care’s belief that strong vision is critical to both academic and sports performance, especially in a fast-paced game like hockey.

Anuruddha Herath Bandara, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association, commented on the collaboration, “We are truly grateful to Vision Care for not only sponsoring the tournament but also contributing meaningfully to the health and well-being of our players through free eye checkups. Their involvement has added great value to this year’s event.”

This collaboration underscores Vision Care’s dedication to youth development, sports, and community well-being. By supporting fast-growing school sports like hockey and raising awareness around the importance of eye health, Vision Care continues to empower young athletes and strengthen its community-focused mission.

Kasun Wijesena, Marketing Manager of Vision Care, stated, “At Vision Care, we strongly believe that sports play a vital role in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. Supporting sporting organizations such as the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association aligns with our commitment to overall well-being. Hockey is a dynamic sport that requires keen vision, focus, and agility, and we are proud to contribute to the players’ success by ensuring their eye health. Additionally, Vision Care offers a wide range of eyewear solutions—spectacles, sunglasses, and contact lenses—tailored for athletes and active individuals.”

Now in its 58th year, the Inter District Combined Schools Hockey Tournament is one of Sri Lanka’s longest-standing and most respected school-level sports events. With separate categories for boys and girls, it provides equal opportunity and national-level exposure to budding hockey talent from every district. This year, the boys’ championship was secured by the Matale schools team, while the Colombo schools team emerged champions in the girls’ category.

As hockey continues to rise in popularity among schoolchildren, Vision Care’s sponsorship reinforces its long-term vision of supporting athletic development, advocating for child eye care, and uplifting communities across Sri Lanka.
