Ceylinco Life’s 85th classroom donation benefits Horana school

85th classroom donation - Horana

Ceylinco Life has gifted a purpose-built classroom building to a primary school in Horana, taking the number of classrooms donated by the Company to needy schools across the country to 85.

In a unique engagement with the school community of the Pelpola Kanishta Vidyalaya, Ceylinco Life provided building materials to the value of Rs 1.35 million, and the parents of students, past pupils, and other well-wishers in the area contributed the labour needed to build the classroom.

This was the second occasion in Ceylinco Life’s flagship social responsibility initiative to build classrooms for schools that the beneficiary community provided the labour for construction.

The completion of the new building has provided the children of the school with a dedicated classroom to learn and practice dancing, freeing them from the constraints of the inadequate temporary shelter they had been using previously, the Company said. The Pelpola Kanishta Vidyalaya has 305 students.

This latest classroom project was coordinated by the Ceylinco Life Horana branch and was completed in 2023. Construction was delayed by the closure of the school due to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequently the fuel and economic crises that prevailed in the country. Despite these challenges and the escalation in construction material costs, Ceylinco Life said it fulfilled its commitment to the project and will continue to build more classrooms for needy schools in other parts of Sri Lanka.

Every classroom built by Ceylinco Life over the years continues to be monitored and maintained by the Company to ensure it serves many generations of students.

Commencing with a classroom built for the Tissa Primary School in Lunugamvehera in 2004, Ceylinco Life’s schools infrastructure project has traversed the length and breadth of Sri Lanka, assisting schools in diverse locations such as Jaffna, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Muttur, Batticaloa, Sittandy, Mollipatana, Ayithyamalai, Embilipitiya, Nivithigala, Beligala, Avissawella, Deniyaya, Kamburupitiya, Bandarawela, Haputale, Rambukkana, Kandy, Pilimatalawa, Madulkele, Rikillagaskada, Rajawella, Matale, Galgamuwa, Padaviya, Boraluwewa, Anuradhapura, Moneragala, Anamaduwa, Matugama, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Wellawaya, Talawa, Chilaw, Galagedara, Rathkarawwa, Hatton, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Welimada, Puttalam, Polonnaruwa, Matugama, Elpitiya, Kegalle, Sevanagala, and now Horana.

Adjudged Sri Lanka’s ‘Brand of the Year’ and ‘Service Brand of the Year’ by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) and ‘Best Life Insurer in Sri Lanka’ by World Finance for the ninth consecutive year in 2022, Ceylinco Life was conferred the ‘Peoples Life Insurance Service Provider of the Year’ title at 2023 SLIM Kantar Peoples Awards for the 17th consecutive year.  Ceylinco Life has been the country’s leading life insurer for more than half of the 35 years it has been in existence.
