The Commercial Bank of Ceylon has announced the launch of its latest card product, a Prepaid Travel Card to improve customer experience and convenience when travelling overseas.

Issued in collaboration with the world’s leading payment network Visa and issued in five currencies – US Dollar, Great Britain Pound, Euro, Singapore Dollar and Australian Dollar, the card has NFC and PIN compatibility, making it convenient and secure to be used around the world.

Available to any resident in Sri Lanka over the age of 18, the ComBank Travel Card can be obtained from any of the Bank’s 268 branches and service locations island-wide. The card can be loaded up to the equivalent of the foreign exchange allowance the cardholder is entitled to when travelling overseas and can be topped-up again on subsequent overseas visits during the validity period of the card. The card is issued subject to Exchange Management and Anti-Money Laundering regulations enforced in Sri Lanka, the Bank said.

The Prepaid Travel Card can be used for purchases, Internet transactions and to perform ATM withdrawals in foreign countries. The transactions will be billed to the customer’s prepaid account in the currency mentioned on the face of the travel card, and the cardholder will receive SMS notifications for every transaction. Customers can view their transaction details and the balance available in the card through Commercial Bank’s Online Banking facility and from the special web portal available on the Commercial Bank website.

“A pre-paid travel card is one of the safest and most convenient ways to carry funds while travelling overseas,” the Head of Commercial Bank’s Card Centre Mr Thusitha Suraweera said. “It can be used at any establishment that accepts credit and debit cards, as well as at ATMs which accept Visa Cards.

An additional benefit of the card is the protection it offers the cardholder against fluctuations in exchange rates, he said.

Commercial Bank cards are the fastest growing cards in Sri Lanka and enjoy market leadership in Credit and Debit Card cumulative point-of-sale usage. The Bank offers a variety of Credit Cards in the Silver, Gold and Platinum tiers of Visa, Mastercard and UnionPay Cards, as well as Visa Signature, World Mastercard, Visa Infinite, UnionPay Asia Prestige Platinum and UnionPay Asia Prestige Diamond Cards in the premium segment. The cards are equipped with ‘Tap’ n Go’ NFC technology and are backed by a strong NFC Point-of-Sale (POS) network.

The only Sri Lankan Bank to be ranked among the world’s top 1000 banks for nine years consecutively, Commercial Bank operates a network of 268 branches and 865 ATMs in Sri Lanka. The Bank has won over 80 international and local awards in 2018 and 2019, and was ranked among the 10 Most Admired Companies in Sri Lanka in 2019.
