Living sanctuary for Sri Lanka’ rich biodiversity

Dipped Products PLC (DPL), a leading exporter of premium hand protection solutions, has unveiled its pioneering EcoPulse Nature Reserve—an innovative biodiversity haven—at the heart of its Hanwella manufacturing facility.

Spanning two acres in Sri Lanka’s lush low country wet zone, the EcoPulse Nature Reserve marks the first phase of a broader biodiversity enhancement programme outlined in DPL Pulse, the company’s ESG Roadmap 2030. The initiative sets a target of restoring ecosystems equivalent to five times the total land area occupied by DPL and aligns with the Hayleys Lifecode, the Hayleys Group’s ESG aspirations for 2030.

Designed to recreate and restore the low country wet zone ecosystem, the EcoPulse Nature Reserve is a testament to DPL’s deep commitment to balancing progress with ecological preservation. The park features a carefully curated biodiversity trail, viewpoints and a butterfly garden offering an immersive experience that celebrates Sri Lanka’s natural heritage.

The biodiversity park showcases a wide range of endemic and endangered plant species—such as Navahandi (medicinal, native), Rath Dothalu (endemic, endangered), and Gal Karanda (endemic), strategically introduced to rehabilitate the landscape.

Through this restoration, DPL aims to establish a thriving natural habitat that nurtures native and endemic wildlife, ensuring the park becomes a living sanctuary for Sri Lanka’s rich biodiversity.  Already, the EcoPulse Nature Reserve has welcomed sightings of remarkable fauna such as the Sri Lanka Hanging Parrot, Yellow-Fronted Barbet, Purple-Faced Langur, and the endangered Eurasian Otter, each a symbol of Sri Lanka’s irreplaceable biodiversity.

“Through this EcoPulse Nature Reserve, we are restoring nature and reimagining how business and the environment can coexist,” said Pushpika Janadheera, Managing Director of Dipped Products PLC.

“This initiative reflects our vision for a sustainable future, where the land we occupy is enriched by our presence. Ongoing development and care will ensure this ecosystem grows more self-sustaining over time. The EcoPulse Nature Reserve is a living laboratory, proving that responsible corporate citizenship can help heal the planet.”

The EcoPulse Nature Reserve serves multiple purposes, acting as a beacon of ecological restoration by reviving native flora and rehabilitating natural habitats for endemic and endangered species.

Beyond its environmental impact, the EcoPulse Nature Reserve is envisioned as a platform for education and awareness, hosting guided visits for employees, school and university students, and select customers and partners. Through these experiences, DPL hopes to foster a deeper appreciation for nature and inspire future generations.

Additionally, the EcoPulse Nature Reserve opens new avenues for research and conservation by offering opportunities for scientists to study the low country wet zone ecosystem and monitor the regeneration of biodiversity over time.

As Sri Lanka faces increasing environmental challenges, the EcoPulse Nature Reserve is a symbol of hope and possibility—a space where nature and industry are not in conflict, but in collaboration. It stands as a powerful testament to what can be achieved when human progress is guided by purpose, and when businesses choose to be stewards of the earth, not just users of its resources.
