As part of its enduring commitment to nurturing future leaders and contributing towards the advancement of the country’s professional and business landscape, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) awarded scholarships to the island’s top ten achievers of the commerce stream from the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination, marking the beginning of their journey towards becoming world-class Chartered Accountants.
At a special ceremony held at the Institute recently, these outstanding students, whose academic excellence placed them at the pinnacle of commerce education in the country, were presented with scholarships that will pave the way for their entry into CA Sri Lanka’s globally recognised professional programme.
The event was graced by Mr. Heshana Kuruppu, President of CA Sri Lanka; Mr. Tishan Subasinghe, Vice President; Mr. Sanjaya Bandara, Immediate Past President and Chairman of CA Foundation, Mr. Thivanka Jayasinghe, Council Member; Ms. Lakmali Priyangika, Chief Executive Officer; and Mr. Asoka Jayasinghe, former Chairman of the CA Foundation.
The top ten students who were recognised by CA Sri Lanka were:
- Amasha Dulari Perera from Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo (Island 1st)
- Iduwara Sanhitha Kumarapeli from Royal College, Colombo (Island 2nd)
- Lesandi Luthara Perera from Sujatha Vidyalaya, Nugegoda (Island 3rd)
- Analki Dharmawansha from Ladies’ College, Colombo (Island 4th)
- Aamilah Sufi Ismail from Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Colombo (Island 5th)
- Dilmini Punsisi Welehewa from St Thomas’ Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Matara (Island 6th);
- Ashan Jeewantha Wickramanayaka Karunaratne from Mahinda College, Galle (Island 7th);
- Zikra Fouz from St Joseph’s College, Kegalle (Island 8th)
- Minsadee Welikanne from Musaeus College, Colombo (Island 9th); and,
- P. D. N. Gihansa from Sumangala Balika Vidyalaya, Panadura (Island 10th).
Addressing the students, Mr. Kuruppu lauded them for their remarkable achievement. “Being ranked among the top achievers is no small feat. It is a testament to your hard work, consistency, and commitment to excellence. Today, we not only celebrate your academic success but also welcome you into a professional journey filled with immense possibilities. The CA Sri Lanka qualification is more than just a designation; it is a world-class programme that prepares you to become leaders in business and the economy. CA Sri Lanka is not merely a global passport to professional success, but it is the stepping stone from the classroom to the boardroom,” he noted.
The CA Sri Lanka qualification stands proudly as one of the most respected professional qualifications in the region, with a prestigious history spanning over 65 years. The qualification equips aspiring CAs with the knowledge, technical skills, leadership competencies, and ethical values to thrive anywhere in the world.
The CA Sri Lanka qualification is designed to meet both local and international industry standards. This comprehensive programme prepares students to become proficient professionals equipped to handle the complexities of not just today but also tomorrow’s dynamic business environment. To cater to the diverse needs of students, CA Sri Lanka also provides two early exit routes, which are the Certified Business Accountant (CBA) and Certified Corporate Accountant (CCA), apart from its benchmark qualification which is the Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) designation.
Chartered Accountants produced by CA Sri Lanka are highly respected across the globe, with members holding influential leadership roles across some 50 countries. As key players in the corporate world, CA Sri Lanka members hold top positions in a variety of industries, including as Chairmen, Managing Directors, CEOs, CFOs, COOs, and General Managers, among many other influential positions.
