“Hari Pirisidu Railway” initiative by Bio Clean aims to enhance sanitation facilities at railway stations across Sri Lanka.

Darley Butler & Company, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Railways and the Central Environmental Authority, officially launched the “Bio Clean Hari Pirisidu Railway” Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative under the Bio Clean brand. As part of this project, Bio Clean cleaning products will be supplied free of charge for a period of one year to clean and maintain toilet facilities at all railway stations across Sri Lanka.

The official inauguration ceremony took place on April 30, 2025, at the Colombo Fort Railway Station. Distinguished attendees included Mr. S. M. L. Siriwardena, Station Master at Colombo Fort; Mr. Chandana, Sales Manager of Sri Lanka Railways; Mr. T. S. Polwatta, Additional General Manager; Ms. Shyamani Periyapperuma, Acting Deputy Director General and Director (Environmental Promotion) at the Central Environmental Authority; and Mr. Sanjeewa Gunawardena, Executive Director of Darley Butler & Company, along with other officials.
 



 
As a symbolic gesture, Darley Butler presented the sponsorship materials to Mr. S. M. L. Siriwardena during the event.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Sanjeewa Gunawardena, Executive Director of Darley Butler & Company, stated: “As a company, we are committed to producing Bio Clean cleaning solutions that are environmentally responsible. The goal of this initiative is to provide railway passengers with access to clean and hygienic toilet facilities. We hope this will lead to a more pleasant and comfortable travel experience. Based on the success of this project, we intend to continue and expand it in the coming years.”

In addition, Ms. Shyamani Periyapperuma, Acting Deputy Director General of the Central Environmental Authority and Director of Waste Management (Environmental Promotion), expressed her appreciation for the initiative and emphasized its value. She noted that this program represents a significant step forward in contributing to public health, environmental protection, and enhancing the comfort and hygiene of railway passengers. Mr. T. S. Polwatta, Additional General Manager of Sri Lanka Railways, also shared his thoughts at the occasion, commending the Darley Butler Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Through this initiative, Darley Butler aims to contribute towards a cleaner and more comfortable journey for railway passengers while also supporting the government’s efforts to enhance the tourism industry. With Bio Clean products, the company expects to significantly improve sanitation in public restroom facilities, contributing to both public health and environmental conservation.
