Premier healthcare provider Hemas Hospital Wattala, as part of its enduring policy of aiding and empowering its many stakeholders, recently facilitated the opening of a preschool and day care centre at the Colombo North Teaching Hospital (CNTH) in Ragama.

The new preschool and day care centre is exclusively available to children of the hospital’s medical staff, who struggle to balance a demanding and unpredictable work schedule with their personal commitments.

This is of particular concern within CNTH given the enormous inflow of patients it receives. The hospital is currently the largest tertiary care institution in the Gampaha District, employing a staff of over 2,000 while being capable of accommodating a total inward patient capacity of nearly 1,500.

“The hospital is the latest of Hemas Hospital Wattala’s CSR initiatives that seek to support both our closest partners and society at large. The preschool and day care centre was a dire need identified by some of our consultants attached to the Colombo North Teaching Hospital so we did not hesitate to offer them whatever help we could,” Dr. Lasantha Karunasekara ,Director and General Manager of Hemas Hospital Wattala said.

This support came by way of an investment of Rs. 1 million, which helped CNTH renovate the area within its premises allocated for the preschool and day care centre while also equipping it with the necessary fittings.

Dr. Lasantha added that unburdening the hospital’s medical staff of the worry of identifying suitable care for their children granted them greater flexibility and allowed them to entirely focus on their patients’ treatment and care.

Another factor which motivated Hemas to partner CNTH for this project was the deep history of cooperation the two hospitals share. CNTH & Hemas Hospital Wattala works in collaboration of many services & resources.

Established in 2008, Hemas Hospital Wattala is owned by Hemas Hospitals. Hemas Hospitals’ second hospital in Thalawathugoda and its Wattala branch have enabled the group to grow into one of the most advanced hospital chains in Sri Lanka.
