Continuing its commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action, HUTCH Sri Lanka has successfully completed the second phase of its ongoing rainforest restoration project in collaboration with Rainforest Protectors Sri Lanka. This initiative, taking place in the Rajawaka Forest Reserve in Balangoda, represents a key step in the company’s broader mission to promote ecological preservation, biodiversity, and long-term environmental resilience.
The second phase was held on May 16th, 2025, with active involvement from HUTCH employees and members of Rainforest Protectors Sri Lanka. Volunteers participated in tree planting and other conservation tasks aimed at rehabilitating degraded forest areas and restoring natural habitats. The initiative is structured to take place in multiple phases over the year, ensuring sustained ecological impact and measurable progress in reforestation.
By aligning its sustainability agenda with national priorities and global environmental goals, HUTCH continues to demonstrate how corporate entities can make a meaningful contribution to ecological protection. The company’s partnership with Rainforest Protectors Sri Lanka reflects a shared commitment to promoting awareness, encouraging community involvement, and implementing on-the-ground solutions for climate resilience.
Mangala Bandara, General Manager – Corporate Affairs at HUTCH Sri Lanka, commented: “Our continued involvement in the Rajawaka Forest Reserve goes beyond traditional CSR. It reflects our belief that responsible business practices must include care for the environment. We are proud to support long-term reforestation alongside Rainforest Protectors Sri Lanka. As part of the CK Hutchison Group, HUTCH is also aligning its sustainability efforts with the Group’s global mandate, including the goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. Furthermore, this initiative reinforces our support for Sri Lanka’s national ambition to achieve government-led net-zero targets and build a more sustainable future.”
Jayantha Wijesingha, Convener of Rainforest Protectors Sri Lanka, added: “Working with partners like HUTCH allows us to scale our impact. The continuation of this project highlights how corporate collaboration strengthens conservation outcomes.”
As a continuous, multi-phase effort, HUTCH aims to deepen its engagement and inspire wider stakeholder participation. The initiative stands as a model for sustained, corporate-led environmental action and highlights the vital role of public-private partnerships in safeguarding Sri Lanka’s natural ecosystems.
