Colombo, Sri Lanka – 28/05/22025 – In a landmark collaboration aimed at enhancing industry-ready education for engineering students, IPD Colombo (Pvt) Ltd. has partnered with the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) to launch the first-ever IPD Power Systems Laboratory at the SLIIT Malabe campus. The facility, inaugurated following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 30th, will officially open on May 28th, providing cutting-edge training and hands-on experience in switchgear and power systems to hundreds of Electrical Engineering undergraduates.

This strategic initiative marks a significant milestone in IPD Colombo’s mission to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry application. Previously, only a select group of interns had access to this type of practical training. With the new lab, all Electrical Engineering students at SLIIT will gain direct exposure to critical industry equipment, enhancing their technical competencies and employability.

Founded in 2005, IPD Colombo serves as the offshore operations hub for IPD Group Australia, a leading name with over 70 years of excellence in electrical engineering solutions. The Colombo-based team, now comprising over 200 professionals—including more than 100 qualified electrical engineers—works closely with 290+ colleagues in Australia, delivering high-quality engineering services that contribute significantly to Sri Lanka’s foreign income. Based in Colombo, the team now exceeds 200 professionals, including over 100 qualified electrical engineers, who collaborate seamlessly with more than 290 counterparts in Australia. This integrated delivery model enables the provision of high-quality engineering solutions to international clients. In FY2024, the operation generated AUD 4.5 million in foreign income, reinforcing its strategic role as a key contributor to Sri Lanka’s export service economy.

Registered under the Colombo Port City project, IPD Colombo is a recognized leader in exporting knowledge and technical expertise. The company’s success is underpinned by its commitment to employee development, social impact, and creating global opportunities for Sri Lankan engineers.

The new Power Systems Laboratory at SLIIT is part of a broader vision led by IPD Colombo Chairman Mr. Mohamed Yoosuff, whose passion for education and CSR has inspired multiple community initiatives. These include structured internships, training programs, university collaborations, and participation in national career fairs. Discussions are also underway to expand the initiative by hosting workshops that will welcome Electrical Engineering students from universities across the country.

In parallel, IPD Colombo continues to foster a culture of holistic growth—offering leadership and communication training, and encouraging employee engagement through sports and wellness activities such as cricket, badminton, swimming, and chess.

The establishment of this new lab at SLIIT represents a powerful convergence of academic excellence and industry insight—setting a new benchmark for engineering education in Sri Lanka and reinforcing IPD Colombo’s role as a catalyst for national progress.
