The Consulate of Mexico invites the members of the public to enjoy a series of contemporary films from Mexico over the month of June.

Organised by the Mexican Embassy, India, in collaboration with the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE), the series will stream three contemporary titles free of charge over the weekends of the month of June from 6 p.m on Friday to 11.50 p.m on Sunday.

The cultural initiative is supported by the Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi and the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation, Chennai. Members of the public who wish to view the films can receive register for the screenings at tinyurl.com/JuneCineMX

“The first title of the series was streamed last weekend in India and received overwhelming praise from film enthusiasts and the general public. So we felt it would be great time to also share this experience with audiences in Sri Lanka as well.

“Sri Lanka has always had a strong cultural affinity with Mexico, be it in our diverse and colourful cuisine, joyful music, or our rich heritage of art and culture. These shared experiences provide a window into the fascinating world of Mexican film, and also help build bridges between our nations. We hope you join us in enjoying these brilliant films,” Honorary Counsel of Mexico in Sri Lanka, Mohan Pandithage said.

Sri Lankan audiences are given an intimate view into the lives of families left behind as men leave in search of work in the 2008 film by Jorge Perez Solano, Espiral (Spiral) this weekend (June 11- 13). A documentary by Teresa Camou Guerrero about maize farmers working in an unwelcoming modern world that also needs them will follow the week after (June 18- 20).

On the final weekend of June (25-27) will be the screening of El sueño del Mara’akame (Mara’akame’s Dream). The films revolve around Nieri, a young native Huichol whose dream is to travel with his band and play in a concert in Mexico City. But his father, a shaman Huichol, has other plans for him.
