Sri Lanka is recognised as a breathtaking natural wonder. The Wilpattu national reserve is acknowledged as an important aspect in showcasing the beauty of the nation. Over a long period, the Wilpattu reserve and the animals have been facing grave endangerment. Unfortunately, we as citizens have fallen short of finding a suitable solution and in taking necessary action.

The Sri Lankan Army must be credited for coming forward in taking on this challenging responsibility. However, it must be noted that it is a strenuous task and cannot be tackled easily. It requires immense dedication of labour as protecting flora is truly a difficult undertaking.

Additionally, the continued drought in the dry zones and different attitudes by various segments of the population has also hampered this task.

The forest reserve can be destroyed in an instant through felling. However, to plant and nurture the trees back to its original standing, in addition for animals to return to the regenerated forest will take decades. It is a long-term challenge and an enormous mission.

Ritzbury has been distinguished as a local corporate, consistently committed to working towards strengthening the national economy, and contributing through relentless corporate social responsibility projects, came forward as the initial supporter contributing financially towards the replanting effort of the Wilpattu forest reserve.

Ritzbury has undertaken this project and also taken the lead in creating the necessary groundwork. As a renowned local brand, Ritzbury does not work solely for commercial gains but is recognised for actively contributing towards vast corporate social responsibility programmes which take precedence.,‘Thuruliya Wenuwen Api’ has a very special place in the company’s CSR programme.

Contributing the required financial sponsorship necessary to begin this long-term corporate social responsibility programme, Ritzbury was humbled to have been invited by the Sri Lankan Army to strengthen the cause and supporting them in this venture.

The inauguration ceremony for the programme ‘Thuruliya Wenuwen Api’ was held in May and the event was graced by the Commander of the Army and senior Ritzbury officials.

Participating at the event were school children and Ritzbury had the privilege of helping to inculcate valuable lessons on becoming partners in building a greener world.
