This September, Allianz Lanka reaffirms its commitment to a safer future for children on the roads with ‘Allianz Protect’, marking another important step in its journey to protect the nation’s most precious asset – its children. With over 700 fatalities from road accidents in the first four months of 2023, according to the Sri Lanka Police, motorcycle-related accidents account for nearly 40% of total road accidents. Meanwhile 63% of victims are in the economically productive age groups of 15 to 64 years, with many being children.

Allianz Protect, in its unwavering dedication to promoting the safety of children on the road, Allianz Lanka is embarking on a new round of child-safety-helmet distribution for children who travel on motorbikes. Following the resounding success of a similar project in 2022, Allianz Lanka took its efforts by identifying deserving beneficiaries and monitoring their safety during school hours, joining forces with the Sri Lanka Police. For the second consecutive year, this initiative continues its focus on distributing safety helmets for children, aiming to minimize accidents and ensure the wellbeing of the younger generation.

Initiated on the 13th of September 2023, Allianz Protect underscores Allianz Lanka’s commitment to safeguarding the lives of children across the island, whilst promoting road safety. Through a well-coordinated effort, the initiative plans to distribute 1,000 safety helmets for children across 20 different branch localities. Allianz Lanka is committed as a conscientious corporate entity fulfilling our role by prioritizing child safety in road accidents. Our dedication extends beyond today, as we plan to sustain this initiative for years to come, making a lasting impact on children’s safety.”

The main event of this impactful initiative took place at the Allianz Lanka Malabe branch, where top management joined forces with regional police officials. This collaboration highlights the shared commitment to creating safer environment for children and underscores the importance of collective action in achieving this vital goal.

DIG of Police, Indika Hapugoda, Director – Traffic Administration & Road Safety, also commented saying, “Motorcycle accidents are quite common in Sri Lanka. Initiatives like Allianz Protect campaign, advocating helmet use among children, are vital in reducing serious injuries and ensuring safer journeys for our children.”

Allianz Lanka, in collaboration with Allianz Global Corporate Specialty SE, a subsidiary of Allianz SE, headquartered in Munich, Germany, recently conducted a ground-breaking workshop for the Sri Lankan insurance broker community. The workshop aimed to equip brokers with the latest global developments in Directors and Officers (D&O) Insurance, empowering them to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of corporate liability coverage.

The Sri Lankan insurance broker community plays a vital role as the front line in handling complex corporate clients. Acknowledging their importance, Allianz Lanka conducted an intensive training session to enhance their understanding of D&O insurance and acquaint them with recent industry developments worldwide.

A highly anticipated event, the workshop took place at the new Allianz Lanka Head Office at One Galle Face, recently. Two esteemed trainers led the session, bringing their expertise to the forefront. Unnati Bajpai, Regional Practice Leader of Cyber & Tech PI for the Asian Region at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty, and Divya Shriyan, an expert Underwriter on Financial Lines in India, skilfully guided the participants through the intricacies of D&O insurance.

Over 50 participants attended the training session, surpassing expectations and showcasing the dedication of the Sri Lankan insurance broker community to stay abreast of industry trends. Allianz Lanka expressed its gratitude to the participants by awarding each attendee a certificate of recognition, highlighting their valuable contribution to the workshop and the industry.

Alan Smee, CEO and Country Manager at Allianz Insurance Lanka Limited, emphasized the significance of the broker community and their expertise in shaping effective client outreach with regard to D&O policies saying, “We value the expertise of our broker community and recognize their pivotal role in delivering exceptional service to our clients. Equipping them with comprehensive knowledge and global insights on D&O insurance will undoubtedly elevate their expertise on the relevant segment. We look forward to working together in the future.”

D&O insurance policies provide essential protection to company management and corporate officials. With the present legal environment growing increasingly complex, businesses face heightened risks and potential litigation, often exacerbated by adverse news events and the virality of social media. Recognizing the rising costs of lawsuits, companies should prioritize D&O insurance as a safeguard, as a robust D&O insurance programme becomes a crucial factor in attracting top managerial talent, given the potential risks involved in discharging the duties of these offices, effectively.

As a leading player in the insurance industry, Allianz Lanka remains committed to nurturing a knowledgeable insurance broker community capable of providing superior service and tailored solutions to corporate clients. By facilitating this workshop, Allianz Lanka reaffirms its dedication to increasing awareness among brokers regarding the latest developments in global D&O insurance, fostering a well-informed and proactive insurance ecosystem.

Navigating the Joys and Challenges of Motherhood with Allianz Lanka

Mother’s Day is a celebration of the remarkable journey that is motherhood. A time to honour and appreciate the women who selflessly devote themselves to nurturing and caring for their little ones. To help celebrate these amazing women, our experienced mothers at Allianz Lanka have shared their wisdom, experiences and insights by answering some commonly asked questions by new mums. From one precious mother to another, we at Allianz Lanka would like to reassure new mothers that they’re not alone on this journey. So here are the answers our experienced mothers provided to some frequently asked questions.

How do I cope with a crying baby?

It can be tough when your little one won’t stop crying. But, take a deep breath and know that you’re doing an amazing job. When those tears start flowing, try holding baby close and gently rocking. Sing a soothing lullaby or say soothing words softly. Sometimes, a warm bath or a change of scenery can also work wonders. And, remember, each baby is different, so trust your natural maternal instincts and know that this phase will pass. Chandima EkanayakeDeputy Manager — Technical Insurance – Mother of one

Is it ok to go on long car rides with a new-born?

Doing anything with a baby requires putting safety first, so always make sure to use a rear-facing car seat to ensure that your baby is not only safe but also comfortable. Having support from your partner or others journeying with you can be a huge advantage. Travelling, by car or any other way, with a new-born requires extra planning and care. Long car journeys can be a little daunting, but don’t worry, you’ve got this. Make sure to schedule regular breaks for feeding, changing diapers, and giving your little adventurer some cuddles and stretches. Ultimately, it’s not about the destination, but the beautiful moments you share along the way. Hasanthika Wijenayake Senior Executive – HR – Mother of two

Should I get insurance and, if so, how?

Yes, if you can, you should, as it provides an additional layer of safety and security. It’s important to consider insurance options that can offer financial protection for your entire family, including your baby. Having the right insurance coverage can help safeguard against unexpected events and provide peace of mind. Common types of insurance that you could consider as a new parent would be, health insurance and life insurance. These types of coverage can help ensure that you and your family are protected in case of medical emergencies or unforeseen circumstances. In fact, we at Allianz Lanka have designed a comprehensive product, Allianz Suwasahana, which understands the importance of providing financial security that can cover your entire family including your children. Securing the right insurance coverage is an investment you can make into your family’s well-being and future financial stability, especially as a mother. Chamila Amunugama Head of Agency – Mother of two

At what age should I begin childproofing our home?

It’s best to begin childproofing before your baby starts crawling. Think of childproofing as an extra layer of love and protection for your home. Secure cabinets, doors, stairs and any other dangerous areas. Remember to cover those tempting electrical outlets and remove any small objects that could find their way into curious little hands (and mouths! If it’s big enough to put in, they will!). Walk around your home and try to see things from your baby’s perspective. You’ll find all sorts of creative ways to keep them safe. Keep in mind that childproofing is all about creating a nurturing environment for your little one to thrive. It’ll help you do your best. Kaumalee Amaradiwakara Senior Manager — Life OperationsMother of one

Do I need a routine with my new-born?

Routines can be a lifesaver. Establishing a flexible schedule helps create a sense of comfort and predictability. Start by setting regular times for feeding, napping, and playtime. Be open to adjusting as your baby’s needs change. Having said that, some days may just feel like a mess, but that’s totally ok. Embrace the chaos, knowing that you’re building a strong foundation of love and stability for your little one. Shazmina Sheriff – Partnership Manager – Mother of two

The journey of motherhood is filled with countless joys and challenges. By sharing the experiences and insights of our experienced mothers, we hope to provide valuable guidance and support to new mothers. Remember, you are not alone on this beautiful adventure. As we celebrate Mother’s Day, let us honour the precious bond that connects all mothers and celebrate the strength and love that they eternally embody!
