Based on user feedback, Canon’s latest firmware update streamlines workflows and enhances video quality in the XF605

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, July 26, 2022/APO Group/ —

Canon (www.Canon-CNA.com) today announces a firmware update for the XF605 in response to feedback and requests from users. The firmware v1.0.1.1 offers greater efficiency for broadcasters, and more versatile shooting options for content creators utilising the XF605 – a professional broadcast camera designed for solo shooters.

Streamlined workflows

To meet the growing demand for remote and live production, this latest firmware update adds Canon’s XC protocol, enabling the XF605 to work alongside other compatible Canon products within a multicamera system. Combining the impeccable performance of this camera with advanced network technologies, broadcasters can seamlessly integrate the XF605 into their set-up and control the ISO, aperture, Custom Picture and AF of all cameras from a single point. The v1.0.1.1 firmware also introduces a new 4K Intra 60P/50P recording option alongside XF-AVC Intra 410Mbps, creating a lightweight, high-quality codec that helps to minimise storage costs and speed up file transfer.

Enhanced video capabilities

Broadcasters can seamlessly integrate the XF605 into their set-up and control the ISO, aperture, Custom Picture and AF of all cameras from a single point

Powered by Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF, users can now enjoy the benefit of Face and Eye Detection AF and tracking [i] in both fast and slow-motion shooting, perfect for capturing fast paced action. For even more options, the firmware now also adds support for vertical shooting – a feature first seen in the EOS C70. This is great for digital signage, where content creators need to capture 4K content in a portrait format. For simple operation in vertical shooting mode, the monitor and on-screen menu change orientation.

Seamless operability

A camcorder designed for single operators and streamlined crews, such as on the ground broadcasting, the v1.0.1.1 firmware gives operators the ability to monitor all four audio channels in the on-screen meter display. Users can now select Assignable Button 11 as the record button – ideal for those shooting on a tripod or in vertical orientation. Also added is a feature that retains the selected shooting mode while switching from standard to Slow and Fast shooting.

Responding to feedback from customers and end users, and the wider adoption of multi-camera set ups for live and remote production, this firmware levels up the performance of the XF605 and enables it to be easily integrated into multi-camera set-ups.

The XF605 v1.0.1.1 firmware update will be available to download from 22nd August here! – https://bit.ly/3zzT4By

Canon has continued to launch a range of groundbreaking products, including the professional-model EOS-1D series and the EOS 5D series, which paved the way for digital SLR video recording

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, April 4, 2022/APO Group/ —

Canon (www.Canon-CNA.com) announced today that the company’s interchangeable-lens digital cameras (digital SLR and mirrorless cameras) have maintained the No. 1 share of the global market for 19 consecutive years1 from 2003 to 2021.

Canon develops the key imaging system components featured in its EOS series of digital interchangeable-lens cameras – CMOS image sensors, image processors and interchangeable lenses – under the core concept of, “Speed, Comfort and High Image Quality.” Putting together a wide-ranging product lineup – from high-performance flagship models that are highly trusted by professionals to entry-level models that allow users to enjoy high-image-quality shooting with easy operation, as well as a rich selection of RF and EF series lenses that make possible a wealth of creative expression – Canon continues to support the diverse needs of customers.

During the dawn of digital SLR cameras, Canon introduced its breakthrough EOS 300D (EOS Digital Rebel or EOS Kiss Digital in other regions) in September 2003. This groundbreaking camera, which was competitively priced and featured a compact, lightweight design, captured the top share of the global market and set the stage for growth in the digital SLR market. Since that time, Canon has continued to launch a range of groundbreaking products, including the professional-model EOS-1D series and the EOS 5D series, which paved the way for digital SLR video recording. Launched in October 2018, the EOS R System was born from Canon’s desire to construct the ideal lens mount and maximize the appeal of its new RF lenses. Canon has since continued to expand the range of imaging creativity and new possibilities for visual expression, including the release of the EOS R5 – the first camera to feature 8K video recording2 – in July 2020.

In 2021, Canon announced the EOS R3 full-frame mirrorless camera (released in November 2021) featuring the high performance and reliability demanded by professional and enthusiast users, alongside eight new RF lenses3. The RF 800mm F5.6L IS USM and RF 1200mm F8L IS USM unlock new possibilities for professional photographers capturing distant subjects

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, February 25, 2022/ — Canon (www.Canon-CNA.com) Europe today announces the launch of two new super-telephoto lenses, the RF 800mm F5.6L IS USM and the RF 1200mm F8L IS USM. Pushing the boundaries of the RF lens range, these lenses set new standards for the category, with extreme magnification that offers unrivalled shooting of distant subjects. With a staggering 800mm and 1200mm focal lengths – the world’s longest AF focal length lens for mirrorless cameras1 – these lenses have an intelligent design, achieving incredible optical performance and portability. Featuring an impressive Optical Image Stabilizer and wide apertures, these premium L-series RF lenses support a diverse range of photographers, from sport and wildlife to news gathering and surveillance – giving them kit that captures the action from far away, under exceptional circumstances and in extraordinary detail.

Powerful reach from a portable lens

“With the launch of the RF 800mm F5.6L IS USM and RF 1200mm F8L IS USM, Canon has created an unparalleled line-up of super-telephoto lenses to offer greater choice, meeting the needs of professional photographers. The two new lenses expand the capabilities of the RF lens range, by adding 800mm and 1200mm telephoto capabilities – the longest focal length on the market that isn’t a telescope. On top of their incredible reach, photographers can increase the focal length up to double when coupling the lenses with the RF 1.4 x or RF 2 x extenders, with AF shooting and IS function. With the RF 1200mm F8L IS USM this gives photographers the ability to capture incredible detail of subjects over 400 metres away.” Amine Djouahra, Sales and Marketing Director, Canon Central and North Africa.

The intelligently and newly designed optical system enables Canon to achieve these incredible focal lengths in a design that is smaller and lighter weight than traditional super telephoto lenses of this type. Significantly reduced in size from their EF counterparts, the RF 800mm F5.6L IS USM is Canon’s lightest and shortest 800mm L-series lens yet weighing just over 3.1kg, while the RF 1200mm F8L IS USM is the smallest lens of its size ever released1 – at 3.34kg it is 1/5th of the weight and more than 13kgs lighter and 30cm smaller than its legendary predecessor the EF 1200mm f/5.6L USM.

Small businesses no longer need to choose between running costs and high-volume, high-quality colour printing

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, February 24, 2022/APO Group/ —

Canon Europe (www.Canon-CNA.com) announces the latest addition to its MAXIFY GX printer range, the MAXIFY GX5040. Designed for small to mid-size offices and workspaces, the MAXIFY GX5040 single function printer is the third and most compact MAXIFY GX model yet to use refillable MegaTank technology. Offering enhanced enterprise security, versatile and high-speed printing, it promises less downtime, reduced running costs and energy use [i].

High quality, low running costs

Small businesses no longer need to choose between running costs and high-volume, high-quality colour printing. Ideal for presentation print outs or marketing materials, the MAXIFY GX5040 can print 14,000 pages [ii] from a single full set of all pigment durable ink bottles producing highly durable business documents that are water and marker resistant, while its inbuilt Economy Mode increases yield by 1.5x compared with its Standard Mode; producing approximately 21,000 pages [iii] from a full set of ink bottles for larger volume printing.

High-speed, high-volume printing is also taken care of with the MAXIFY GX5040, with printing speeds of approximately 24.0 ipm in black and 15.5 ipm in colour and a first print out in as quickly as seven seconds [iv] in mono. The MAXIFY GX5040 is ideal for situations where quick responses are required, whether that be customer service counters or small clinics. Significantly reducing outsourcing costs and efficiency, the MAXIFY GX5040 can also print on various media, from envelopes, decorative store-front posters, banners up to 1.2m (plain paper only), iron on transfers and magnetic sheets – addressing multiple printing needs in a single device.

More action, less downtime

With less need for everyday upkeep, the MAXIFY GX5040 has productivity at its core. The MAXIFY GX5040’s large capacity ink tanks mean fewer refills, fewer supplier orders and less downtime. Easy to use ink bottles are designed with distinct inlets so only the correct colour can be added to the printer ink tanks and the purpose-built bottle nozzles remove the risk of tank overspill. Ink levels can be checked at a glance thanks to ink tank windows on the front of the printer, making unexpected ink outages a problem of the past.

The MAXIFY GX5040’s large capacity paper tray split between a 100-sheet rear feed and 250 sheet front cassette also means reduced paper reloads, so the printer is always ready to go – allowing for continuous printing at volume without the need to return to the machine. As with the ink tank windows, the paper level is easily checked with a quick glance through a small window on the printer’s front cassette. For fuss-free upkeep, the maintenance cartridge can be replaced easily – saving time on sending the printer for repair or waiting for an engineer.

MAXIFY GX5040 users can operate from a desktop, laptop or smart device for quick and convenient printing via the Canon PRINT app for iOS and Android, as well as platforms including AirPrint® and Mopria®. For extra convenience and security, User Management means an administrator can restrict printer functions, preventing unauthorised access and operations alongside enhanced enterprise security with WPA2-EAP [v].

Savings on plastic waste and energy

High yield ink bottles mean fewer refills – cutting out the need for ink cartridges and toner. High quality automatic duplex printing at the same density as single-sided printing also means the MAXIFY GX5040 saves on paper. Eco settings such as auto power on and off modes mean users can schedule the printer to only be operational during working hours.

The MAXIFY GX5040 single function joins the GX6050 (print, copy scan with ADF) and GX7050 (print, copy scan, fax with D-ADF) MegaTank models in the MAXIFY GX range. Launched in 2021, the two models were introduced to provide businesses with a robust, scalable and low total cost of ownership printing solution to meet their needs.

Suhaib Hussain, Canon Europe Product Manager for Professional Printers and Software said: “The MAXIFY GX5040 bolsters our MAXIFY GX printer range with another fantastic model. The MAXIFY GX range completely streamlines admin for smaller businesses, helping teams run everyday routines more effectively by reducing downtime and running costs. At Canon we strive to support businesses of all sizes with the tools they need to work as efficiently as possible, with a constant eye on quality and cost.”

The event theme ‘Reshaping Goals Together’ invited the company’s valued partners to not only participate but also to be active advocates and key stakeholders for accomplishing business goals in the year 2022

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, December 17, 2021/ — In alignment with the company’s core pillar of empowering talent and partners, Canon (www.Canon-CNA.com) brought together its channel partners and associates to unveil its support strategy and solutions targeted at accelerating business growth across African markets for the upcoming year, 2022; Canon is the Official Printing and Imaging Provider of Expo 2020 Dubai taking place from 1st October 2021 until 31st March 2022.

Canon Central and North Africa (CCNA) revealed its growth plans and strategy to strengthen its support towards business growth for partners amidst the disruption caused by the pandemic, in its annual partner conference program held at Expo 2020 Dubai. The event theme ‘Reshaping Goals Together’ invited the company’s valued partners to not only participate but also to be active advocates and key stakeholders for accomplishing business goals in the year 2022 whilst also celebrating partner achievements for the year 2021.

RESHAPING GOALS TOGETHER

“CCNA was established in the year 2016 with the sole purpose of understanding and thereby fulfilling customer needs specifically for the African market. In the past seven years we have managed to grow leaps and bounds and been consistent in maintaining a CAGR of double digits for the last 6 years. Not to forget, this would not be possible without the trust and support of our channel partners, to whom we remain forever grateful. Given our swift pace of progress in Africa, our vision towards the business growth and revenue at this point is to surpass our previous numbers and perform in double digits for the next 4 years as well. However, we are now looking at a hyper-targeted approach to emerge as the absolute top player in optical solutions industry in our entire product range as well as in all of the 40 countries of our operations in Africa. In order to do so, it is essential for us to work together with our partners in understanding the business challenges they face as well as the challenges faced by the consumer to determine the most impact generating strategy for the upcoming year. This event offers us a great opportunity to collaborate with our partners, gain valuable feedback, insights and suggestions while engaging in thought-provoking discussions and relationship-building exercises.” said Somesh Adukia, Managing Director for Canon Central and North Africa.

IN THE MIDDLE OF EVERY DIFFICULTY, LIES AN OPPORTUNITY

Undeniably, the COVID-19 pandemic upended lives upside down in an instant, thus plunging many businesses into the dark alleys of revenue cuts, employee termination to extremes such as a complete business shutdown. However, Canon did not let the pandemic dampen its spirts and navigated these troubled waters with caution, care and communication. The company adopted an approach of strengthening its communication strategy for employees and partners alike, thereby ensuring that everyone had access to a strong support system during these testing times. The company MD also pointed out the significance of finding opportunities in challenging times, thereby reflecting the company’s core values. Given the rise of remote and hybrid work culture during this time, CCNA pivoted its product strategy to tap into new opportunities by promoting its mirrorless camera series that’s apt for livestreaming services and its inkjet printer series for home-office solutions.

“What we have been able to achieve during the pandemic is nothing short of commendable and I would once again like to thank my team and our partners for enabling us to do so. 2020 was indeed a hard year for all, including us, there were several challenges and obstacles in our path like facing the non-availability of semiconductors and chipsets. However, we are continuously working to provide newer solutions to our partners like working on an alternate strategy to meet the supply shortage. On the other hand, I would also like to highlight that amidst this period of massive disruption when most companies were looking at scaling down, we went ahead and employed 26 people in our CCNA team in the year 2021 to augment, strengthen and sustain our partner and consumer support,” remarked Somesh in his presentation speech during the conference.

RESHAPHE, REENGINEER, REPHASE

One of the goals for 2022 highlighted in the conference was to build strong business resiliency not just for Canon but also for all of its channel partners. Emphasizing on driving business value and growth through a three-pronged approach of ‘Reshape, Reengineer and Rephase’ for 2022, the company shared its plans of boosting its current B2B space across Africa by more than 20%. Commenting further, the company MD added, “This is a time for us to focus on growth and not to get carried away or disheartened by all the challenges that lay ahead in our path. As complex and dynamic as the African market is, it is also full of growth opportunities. We are looking to enhance our focus on certain product groups such as Professional Print, DIMS and Large Format Printing whereas when it comes to increasing our brand presence and boosting new business development opportunities, we plan to augment our efforts in East, West & Central Africa region. That said, we have equally aggressive growth plans for the next 4 years for all regions alike and would continue to invest in African markets in the areas of human resources and marketing to provide the best support to our partners in meeting their needs for growing their businesses. This is evident in the fact that CCNA manages a geography as large as 40 countries, thus it is critical for us to build a secure and valuable distribution pipeline to ensure business continuity and growth. In the past, we have been able to tactically deploy our approach of ‘Closer to Market and Closer to Customer’ thereby opening 6 local offices in African countries with locally based country distribution managers who were further able to identify the right partners with the necessary experience and financial strength to support Canon’s business. Needless to say, our partners have done an exceptional job in scaling up our business across Africa.”

With a removable IR Cut Filter to enhance IR performance, this model is perfect for shooting in very low light conditions such as for reality TV or wildlife where subjects might be outside at night. Employing Canon’s advanced optical technology, the CR-X300 features a Stabilized 20x optical zoom lens with a maximum aperture of f/1.8 at its widest setting, further enhancing image quality in low light settings. With a built-in, graduated type ND filter, giving options to a maximum setting of 1/8 ND, this camera functions equally well in brighter environments – such as when shooting in broad daylight.

Versatile streaming options

The Canon PTZ line-up has compatibility with a range of protocols for video transmission, camera control and 4K video streaming over IP, and the CR-X300 is no different. Employing Canon’s network technology this PTZ camera supports multiple protocols, including RTMP/RTMPS, NDI|HX1, RTP/RTSP Standard Communication Protocol as well as Canon’s newly developed XC Protocol – enabling streaming direct to the selected Content Delivery Network for more efficient production. The XC Protocol offers the added benefit of enabling other PTZ cameras and camcorders, such as those from the Cinema EOS range, to be used within the same production system as the CR-X300. The CR-X300 also features a range of connectivity options including Power over Ethernet (PoE++), HDMI and 6G-SDI. This flexibility enables the camera to easily fit in to existing production systems and seamlessly integrate with existing workflows.

Enhanced control, simple operation

The CR-X300 uses a sophisticated pan and tilt drive mechanism, which moves at a variable speed of 0.3° /second to 60° /second, enabling the camera operator to smoothly follow the action. This powerful outdoor camera is compatible with Canon’s recently launched RC-IP100 controller and the Remote Camera Control Application via IP, as well as selected third-party controllers – giving operators the freedom to choose a set up that works for them. Featuring similar Custom Picture setting options to the CR-N300, the CR-X300 can colour match with other Canon Cameras from the Cinema EOS or XF/XA range, while settings are optimised for specific shooting conditions such as sport, portrait, low light and spotlight.

Robust, yet compact design

The CR-X300 is designed to meet the growing demand for video distribution in outdoor markets – whether live or pre-recorded – such as sporting events or theme parks. While many PTZ cameras rely on outdoor housing, the CR-X300 has a durable body that meets IP65 dustproof and water-resistant standards, a weather resistant paint finish and an in-built wiper to ensure clear video, even in rainy conditions. The rugged build of this camera can stand up to wind speeds of 60 m/s in and temperature ranges between -15°C to 40°C. Implementing cybersecurity basics is key to reducing risk and building cyber-resilience

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, October 4, 2021/ — By Quentyn Taylor, Director of Information Security at Canon Europe, Middle East and Africa (www.Canon-Europe.com)

With remote and hybrid working a new ‘normal’ and cybercrime escalating at a rapid rate, more businesses are at risk than ever before. Quentyn Taylor, Director of Information Security at Canon Europe, Middle East and Africa, says implementing cybersecurity basics is key to reducing risk and building cyber-resilience.

Recent rapid digital transformation and reliance on cloud-based solutions has made businesses – in Africa as in the rest of the world – more vulnerable to cybercrime. In today’s global village getting hacked or being the victim of cybercrime inevitable.

The shift to hybrid working (https://bit.ly/3uEoVwZ) has expanded network perimeters, which now include the core office location as well as employees’ homes. Mobile and remote work can be beneficial to productivity but does open up new threat vectors with device management. The enormous growth in the use of connected devices – such as laptops, printers and phones – results in more entry points for possible attacks.

At the same time, cybercrime is evolving and becoming increasingly sophisticated. It’s shifted from trying to infect as many devices as possible to looking for weak links which can enable criminals to steal data or hold corporate systems to ransom.

A mistake or omission by a single employee – or even a third-party provider – can potentially bring down a whole company.

When employees work remotely – at home or in public spaces – they operate outside of the company’s usual controls; existing security measures may no longer be applicable or effective.

The risk is universal; even large, well-resourced companies have failed at times, often against basic attacks.

The Cost

Typical attacks vectors include malware, ransomware, identity theft and email phishing, possibly the most prevalent approach in Africa. Messaging apps like WhatsApp have also been used to compromise victims.

The financial impact of cybercrime can be enormous; the European-based Pathé cinema chain lost over $ 21 million to a Business Email Compromise (BEC) scam and in the US, CNA Financial paid out $40 million in ransom in 2020.

Such costs can be crippling, particularly for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that may not have the financial resources to recover. The ‘infosec poverty line’ is a reality – many small businesses, the backbone of most African economies, simply cannot afford to employ dedicated IT professionals and the massive increase in the cost of cybersecurity and cyber insurance puts them out of reach for many.

Countermeasures

While you are never able to completely eradicate risk, there are simple steps to take that can build the cyber-resilience of almost every business. Work with your reality – whilst IS issues are global, they manifest differently in different areas; there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution.  Focus on the basics, develop a plan and lead for success. Don’t attempt to force people to do as they are told, adjust the message dynamically to fit the actual situation. The priority is to lead in a way that keeps your business and your customers safe.

The first step is to check the internal and external IT perimeter for gaps. A single-entry point can allow an attacker in, rather like an open window is an invitation to an opportunist thief. In today’s fully connected workplace, every device is a potential entry point for criminals.

Everyone’s security and every piece of equipment needs to be on par.

You may have a partner who can assist – at Canon we offer our partners comprehensive assessments to help mitigate security vulnerabilities.

Look for third-party service providers with built-in security and a good track record, you may have already paid for security services through your email and internet provider; check what you already have and plan from there. Working at scale allows them to incorporate many security features a much more reasonable cost.

Most importantly, ensure your employees turn on security features in the software and devices they use. Multi-factor authentication is offered on almost all social platforms, is usually free and is one of the easiest ways to give your security a dramatic boost.

Ultimately, people are both your strongest and weakest link. It only takes one errant click on a phishing mail to open the company to risk. Educate employees on basic cyber hygiene and encourage them to come forward and share mistakes. If an error is out in the open, it can be fixed. Your defence strategy is only effective if breaches are reported.

Develop processes and systems that protect against loss if one person’s email is compromised.

You don’t need to be the most secure business; you just need to be more secure than your neighbours. Most criminals are opportunists, looking to attack easy targets. It’s not about spending; some companies invest heavily in IS but haven’t turned on email multi-factor authentication.

By taking control of your information and network and educating all your employees, you can keep one step ahead of cyber-criminals and continue to serve your customers with confidence.
