Sri Lanka’s biggest marketing event of the year, SLIM Dialog Brand Week 2024 concluded in style recently, amidst active participation from across industries, with all sessions being sold out. A 3-day symposium, held from the 13th to the 15th of March 2024 at Waters Edge, SLIM Dialog Brand Week 2024 was no doubt the most anticipated marketing event in Sri Lanka’s marketing calendar. This flagship event, organized by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) in collaboration with Dialog Axiata, surpassed all expectations, solidifying its reputation as the preeminent gathering of marketing minds in the country.

Four-Day Music Festival in Partnership with Dialog & Lite FM

 Colombo, Wednesday 6th December 2023: Ushering in the festive season on a musical note, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo in partnership with Dialog and Lite FM presents “Moonlight & Magic”, a four-day musical extravaganza featuring world-renowned ensemble Proteus from Hong Kong. Accompanied by songstress extraordinaire Umara Singhawansa, the festival will also feature Terry & the Big Spenders on 7th December, En Route on 8th December, Boom Box featuring Randhir on 9th December, and the Redeemers on 10th December. For the consecutive second year, the Sri Lanka Esports Association (SLESA) is hosting the DIALOG-SLESA All-Island Free Fire Championship. This prestigious event, spotlighting the globally renowned game Free Fire, is generously supported by its primary sponsor, Dialog, in collaboration with its strategic partner, Gamer.LK.

The championship held entirely online boasts an impressive prize pool of Rs. 1 million, reflecting the growing significance and investment in the Esports arena in Sri Lanka. The district qualifier stage, which commenced on 18th September, is set to culminate with a two-day Grand Final scheduled for late November.

Players first take part in the district qualifier stage where teams have to earn their right to represent their district at the district final round by making their way through a group stage, semi-finals and a qualifier final. This year also features a Solo Wildcard round where individual players will battle it out to be placed into one team which will also make their way to the district final round. The teams that make it through the district final round earn the right to represent their district at the All-Island semi-final round, after which the top 12 teams qualify for the Grand Finals.

Last year’s Championship, saw over 2,000 participants take part where team nA NEVERSTOP, who were selected to represent the Mongarala district emerged victorious. Popular Free Fire game streamers hosted watch parties on their social media channels, creating massive interest and bringing together a fledgling community of young aspirants as they compete on the national stage.

“The DIALOG-SLESA All-Island Free Fire Championship showcases the thriving Esports culture in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan National Esports Teams powered by Dialog Axiata participated in the Asian Regional Qualifiers for the International Esports Federation’s (IESF) 15th World Esports Championship across multiple game titles. These Esports athletes were selected by the Sri Lanka Esports Association (SLESA) to represent the country and compete against the best Esports talent in the world.

In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), the Sri Lankan team secured 4th place. The team consisted of Sanjeevan ‘BenJ’ Kalaieesan, Vibuda ‘ChromnZ’ Dezoysa, Jayathra ‘hyper’ Mahadurage, Omal ‘ROACH’ Prabuddha, Geeshan ‘Defiance’ Jayarajah, Ushith ‘Dodomeister’ Pieris and Musaffer ‘zIppA’ Muzin.

The Sri Lankan team in PUBG Mobile finished in 24th place, facing some of the best teams in the world, including last year’s PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2nd place winner, Nepali team DRS Gaming, making this one of the most challenging groups. The team members were Tharindu ‘ISSLmamatha’ Induwara, Rizny ‘ISSL Razor’ Azmy, Ramesh ‘ISSLJIMMY’ Kavindu, Chamuditha ‘ISSLluciferr’ Watshan and Riham ‘ISSLtauter ‘ Ramzi.

In Mobile Legends Bang Bang, the team came in 6th place. The team consisted of Sadul ‘Uchi’ Rathsara, Sithija ‘ReBoOt’ Sandaruwan, Dilshan ‘Dilshan’ Maduranga, Kusal ‘Dagger’ Savinda, Aqeel ‘Shadow’ Jura and Chris ‘Nooblessi’ Rojan

In Dota 2, the national team clinched 4th place. The team members who competed are Deloshaan ‘matrix’ Logeswaran, Aarathanan ‘Prince SL’ Sivasubaramaniam, Supun ‘Night_’ Dissanayaka, Tharusha ‘PanDa’ Nawanjana, Shenal ‘AB’ Daniel, Matheesha ‘SORA’ Madava

One of the standout performances from the Sri Lankan National Esports teams came from the Women’s Counter Strike:Global Offensive team, which secured 2nd place. This accomplishment highlights the growing prominence of female Esports athletes and their dedication towards the sport. The all-female team consisted of Inshani ‘iNsHi’ Shalinga, Kaumini ‘PiK4CHU’ Gunasinghe, Aishwarya ‘Tyche’ Ariyaratne, Sumuduni ‘MeduZa’ Shashikala, Nadee ‘Flufzter’ Ranasinghe and Kasuni ‘tee-hee’ Lokuarachchi.

The International Esports Federation (IESF) is the world’s governing body for esports, with the mission of promoting Esports as a sport beyond geographical boundaries. It has 130 member national federations from all over the world and works to provide equal support and opportunities for Esports athletes worldwide.

In an exciting development for the Esports community, the Sri Lankan Women’s National Team Powered by Dialog was selected to represent Sri Lanka at the IESF World Esports Championship 2023 and other international tournaments. This talented group of individuals were carefully selected by the Sri Lanka Esports Association (SLESA) for their exceptional skills and dedication to their game titles.

The Sri Lanka Esports Association was initiated by Gamer.LK and four other founding members in 2010. The Ministry of Youth and Sports in Sri Lanka has recognized the association with its twelve member organisations as the governing body for Esports in the country.

The International Esports Federation (IESF) is the world’s governing body for Esports, with the mission of promoting Esports as a sport beyond geographical boundaries. It has 130 member national federations from all over the world and works to provide equal support and opportunities for Esports athletes worldwide.

The recent World Esports Championship held in Iasi, Romania, featured 120 countries competing in seven games which includes Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). Led by their captain, Kaumini Gunasinghe, the Sri Lankan women’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, team included Sumuduni Shashikala, Inshani Shalinga, Nadee Ranasinghe, Aishwarya Ariyaratne, and Kasuni Lokuarachchi.

Additionally, the Sri Lankan Women’s Dota 2 team, featuring Nadeeshani Jayasinghe, Semini Perera, Madushika Amarasekara, Nardhya Grero, and Thushangi Amanda were selected to represent the country.

The Global Esports Federation is a non-governmental organisation that convenes the world’s Esports community and is the organizer of the Global Esports Games (GEG) which featured popular game titles Dota 2, eFootball, Street Fighter and PUBG MOBILE for its 2022 edition.

Sri Lanka’s national Esports team for PUBG MOBILE is set to compete in the 19th Asian Games, scheduled to take place in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8, 2023. For the first time, the upcoming Asian Games has introduced Esports as an official medal event, marking a significant shift in the sporting landscape. Dialog Axiata Plc (“Dialog”), Axiata Group Berhad (“Axiata”) and Bharti Airtel Limited (“Airtel”) (collectively “the Parties”),  have entered into a binding term sheet to combine operations of  Bharti Airtel Lanka (Private) Limited, Airtel’s wholly-owned subsidiary with Dialog, a subsidiary of Axiata Group Berhad. The proposed transaction envisages Airtel being granted a stake in Dialog, representing the fair value of Airtel Lanka. Airtel would accordingly be issued new shares in Dialog upon completion of the transaction.

Discussions with respect to the proposed transaction are ongoing between the Parties and also with the relevant regulatory authorities as per applicable laws and regulations. The proposed transaction is subject to signing of definitive agreements and necessary closing conditions including applicable regulatory and shareholder­­ approvals.

The Parties will issue further announcements in due course should there be any material developments.
