The significance of creating a culture of recognition and rewarding exceptional contributions cannot be overstated. Fairfirst recently celebrated two significant milestones – the Fairfax Asia Ambassador Awards and Long Service Award 2023.

Nurturing excellence has been a cornerstone of successful management practices embraced by companies worldwide. Industry leaders like Google experienced a notable 37% surge in employee satisfaction due to employee engagement initiatives, underscoring that financial incentives alone are insufficient to foster highly productive teams. LinkedIn, another one of the world’s most recognizable brands, in a study with Workhuman found a 96% retention rate for employees whose contributions were recognized 4+ times a year. Additionally, according to research by Workhuman and Gallup, organizations that prioritize employee recognition have employees who are four times as likely to be engaged and 56% less likely to look for a new job. And companies that take action to develop a highly engaged workforce through strategic employee recognition could see a 23% higher profitability compared to those that don’t.

The Fairfax Asia Ambassador Awards honours individuals who epitomize the Fairfax guiding principles and are shining beacons of the brand and culture of Fairfirst. Simultaneously, the Long Service Award recognized the commitment and loyalty of individuals who dedicated over 25 years of service, underscoring the organisation’s deep appreciation for loyalty towards the company as well as their colleagues.

Fairfirst’s unique culture, driven by the golden rule of ‘treating others the same way you want to be treated,’ has led to the company winning multiple awards from esteemed international awarding bodies. Recently, they were recognized as the top insurer to work for across the Asia Pacific for the second time by Insurance Business Asia, making them the only Sri Lankan Company listed in the ‘2023 Top Insurance Workplaces in Asia’. Furthermore, they were honoured by the Employer Branding Institute and World HRD Congress for the second consecutive year under the title of Best Employer Brand in developing talent and cultivating competencies for a future-ready organisation.

“I am humbled by the recognitions that we continue to receive as a company and all the credit goes to the exceptionally talented team we have here at Fairfirst. The distinguished Fairfax Asia Ambassador Awards and the Long Service Award are just some of the ways in which we recognize and reward our employees for their commitment towards making Fairfirst one of the best places to work”, emphasized Sandeep Gopal, CEO of Fairfirst.

Rasika Perera, Head of Human Resources also stated, “Celebrating achievements is not just a formality; they symbolize our genuine gratitude and admiration for the exceptional individuals who contribute significantly, day in and day out, to help us be the best at what we do. And by way of these celebrations, we extend our culture to our employees’ families. We recognize the pivotal role families play in our employees’ lives, providing unwavering support that enables them to excel in their roles. Fairfirst is not just a workplace; it’s a community, and these celebrations serve as a testament to the inclusivity and warmth that define our Fairfirst family.”

On 30th July, cricketing fans were able to witness a nail-biter as Fairfirst Insurance successfully chased a victory target of 230-runs with just two wickets and nine balls to spare. Fierce competition was put forth by the Maliban bowlers; however, towards the end of the day, Fairfirst’s nerves of steel pushed them across the winning total amidst loud cheers and non-stop papare music continued towards the late hours at MCA grounds. The phenomenal encounter between two leading corporates in Sri Lanka ended on a high with Fairfirst Insurance crowned as Champions at the National Development Bank (NDB)-sponsored Mercantile Cricket Association (MCA) Premier League 2022.

The journey which led Fairfirst to the MCA Premiere League Championship is a great example of how friendship and engagement within an organisation can fuel its grit towards constantly pushing to be the best at what they do. For Fairfirst, this journey started in 2018 when they took part in the MCA “G” Division and emerged runners-up in the tournament. In 2019, they were the “F” Division champions and in 2022 became the “E” Division runners-up. As records show, although they played in most finals, their nerves got the best of them in their ability to clinch the championship title. However, this time around the team was able to write their very own success story by gaining insights through hindsight as they became Champions in the Premier League Tournament packed with world-class talent.

In speaking about this grand win, Sanjay Siriwardena, Chief Sales Officer and Team Manager, stated: “First of all, well played to the team for giving their all throughout the MCA series and finally achieving what they deserved. This win is a celebration of our togetherness as a company. And at a time when the external environment is surrounded by doom and gloom, this victory gives each one of us the belief that as a company, we can navigate turbulent waters together and come out as champions.”

Lakshan Perera, Fairfirst Cricket Team Captain, commented on this highlight, saying: “This win goes out to my team for making us the Champions at the finals. But there’s more to our journey; it doesn’t just stop here. We are at a stage of pushing through to the next tiers of the tournaments, and we believe we are more than ready to take it on in the spirit of success, togetherness, and fun.”

Appreciating the dedicated efforts of the cricket champions, Sandeep Gopal, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fairfirst Insurance, stated: “The way things are done at Fairfirst is defined by our brand values of Empathy, Authenticity, Transparency, and Social Responsibility. As a result, the talent and attitude of individuals are always prioritised over the traditional hierarchy which usually creates divisions amongst larger teams.

“Our cricket team is the perfect example of this value-driven ethos as they represent how individuals from a varied set of departments, geographies, and demographics within the organisation can come together and achieve incredible results. I am extremely happy and proud of each team player for making their love for cricket a valuable strength of teamwork, success, and a way of life. Well played to the team.”

Fairfirst Insurance, known for its empathy-based innovations, has transformed the insurance industry since the brand’s inception, and their capabilities in refreshing and uplifting the service quality within the local industry have translated into the company being ranked as “One of the Most Loved Brands” in the General Insurance category, as recognised in the Brands Annual 2022 edition (compiled by Brand Finance / presented by LMD). This also comes on the heels of the company being recently awarded as one of the “Most Innovative Brands” across all categories in Sri Lanka by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) and the only General Insurer that’s acquired the highest Facebook review score of 4.1 ratings (as at May 2022). It is evident from these wins that the company’s evolving capabilities find more unparallel ways in redefining world-class customer experiences with empathy, authenticity, transparency, and responsibility.

Becoming one of the most loved brands has become possible because Fairfirst has consistently and continuously delivered on its brand promise. A promise built on four essential pillars – experts in protection and progression, service quality beyond the usual, meaningful innovation, and peace of mind at the right price – each pillar stands on its own to complement the unique strengths of the company’s efforts in delivering empathy-led, customer-centric insurance solutions and journeys that allow them to redefine the status quo through its world-class service offerings.

Speaking on this achievement, Sandeep Gopal – Chief Executive Officer of Fairfirst Insurance, commented: “To be recognised as one of the most loved brands is a great accomplishment for any company. The weight of this recognition is even greater when our efforts in doing well by doing good for individuals, businesses, and the communities are consistent despite all odds. I thank all our amazing Sri Lankans for believing in us on this journey to be the best. Great moments like these motivate us to continue on our path of contributing to the progression of this nation.”

Whilst the use of such techniques and tools revolutionizes its positioning in the insurance category, being a responsible corporate citizen is also an integral part of the company and its global values. Delving into the grassroots of the community via a proactive community engagement agenda plays a key role in the FairfirstWay of promoting Sensible Optimism. That is why Fairfirst’s thinking is not boxed into short-term goals with immediate results, but goes beyond what meets the eye.

Sasith Bambaradeniya – Chief Marketing Officer of Fairfirst Insurance, also commented: “We are extremely thrilled about this achievement. This recognition serves true to our consistency in delivering on our brand promise, always. A promise that emphasises our strengths in generating unique and empathetic insurance solutions across the market. It is also an apt recognition of being progressive, aligned to customers evolving needs, and always willing to make a sensible difference.”

Fairfirst Insurance Ltd. is part of the global Fairfax Group. The Group is a leading property and casualty insurer, reinsurer, and investment manager, headquartered in Toronto, Canada. Fairfirst is today among the top general insurance companies of Sri Lanka and is recognised as the only Sri Lankan company amongst the 2020 top insurance global giants in Asia-Pacific.
