Colombo, March21, 2022 – Mitra Innovation, which celebrates its 10th year in business this year, rolled out a USD pegged salary scheme as one of its key financial wellness initiatives for all employees in Sri Lanka at the start of 2022, the company announced.

The Company attributes its tremendous growth to its market differentiated services and strong focus on its people – a value that the company has continued to foster since its inception in March 2012. The decision to implement a USD pegged salary scheme comes from an understanding that employers need to find creative ways to ensure the financial wellness of their teams. In an ideal situation with a good economy, employers need happy, healthy and skilled employees, while employees expect great opportunities, career growth and a good source of income. However, when faced with an economic crisis, it is critical to explore different and innovative ways to uphold employee wellness.

“At the start of this year, upon careful consideration, the Board of Mitra Innovation made a swift decision to peg all salaries to the USD effective Q1 2022.” stated Chinthi Weerasinghe, Chief Executive Officer, Mitra Innovation.

Furthermore, the Global Leadership Team stated that this decision was taken in the best interests of their employees in Sri Lanka, considering how best to help the existing team, given the current economic environment in the country.

“With this rollout, all employees of Mitra Innovation SL will receive a remuneration package that proportionally increases in value as the USD appreciates against the Sri Lankan Rupee.” added Sanjeev Palihawadana, Chief Operating Officer at Mitra Innovation.

Research shows that financial wellness programs can increase employee satisfaction and help reduce employee stress.  While the company’s ‘hyper growth’ provides its employees with great opportunities, lowered financial stress is key to retaining employees and to reduce brain drain, especially during trying economic times.

Mitra Innovation, which grew its top line and bottom line exponentially in FY2021, increased its global headcount from 180 to 300 during the same period, with most of the additions being recorded in Sri Lanka, where its main software development centre is located.

As the company continues with industry leading growth this year and expands its global presence, the number of opportunities it creates for overseas employment will also increase exponentially. In keeping with the People First mantra in the company, Mitra prefers to give opportunities to its team members first, before looking for external options, through the ‘Grow With Us’ initiative.

Fast growing tech innovator meets powerful portal software

The classic intranet is dead. As platforms purely for information they have offered too little additional value and many companies have been replacing them with effective enterprise portals. These portals provide employees with all the important workflows and processes from a central location, and promote knowledge exchange and cooperation. Mitra Innovation has partnered with United Planet – a pioneer in this area – to promote and provide an enterprise portal called Intrexx: a cross-platform integrated development environment.

When Intrexx was first introduced to the market, it was the first product to enable companies of any size to implement an innovative portal “out of the box”. Over the years – and through working with partners – it has grown to become a full-service tool used to digitise workflows and streamline operations and communications for teams. Whether it’s for the creation of an intranet, extranet or social collaboration, Intrexx provides a straightforward and manageable access to an organisation’s data on one central platform.

Ashok Suppiah, CEO of Mitra Innovation, said: “We are very excited to start this journey with United Planet. As a company delivering systems integration and digital transformations on behalf of our clients, this partnership will allow us to cross a strategic section of our roadmap to help us bring about innovative processes for the companies and organisations we work with”.

Intrexx features a flexible development platform to help people unite and collaborate on tasks. Intrexx provides both intranet services (for employees to access from anywhere), and extranet services (so that a company’s portal can be accessible for customers and partners alike). It also features application development features and functionalities.

Sudaraka Jayashanka, Chief Technology Officer for Mitra Innovation, said “We like the Intrexx platform because of its high level of flexibility and ability to integrate data. Data from external systems such as ERPs, CRMs or BI can be connected with ease because of Intrexx. As we are on a journey to become the most preferred systems integration and digital transformation vendor in the marketplace, this partnership gives us an additional tool in our armoury. It’s a great partnership for us, Intrexx, and hopefully our clients.”

The Freiburg based portal software provider has already serviced over 5,000 small and mid-sized enterprises worldwide, and is one of the leading solutions in the areas of intranet, extranet and digital workplaces. It was also awarded the prize of Social Business Leader by the consulting firm Exerton Group for the time in a row in 2017.

Software engineers from the company have previously taken part in many externally run Hackathon’s but as a company that thrives on innovation and using technologies such as WSO2 and Amazon Web Service (AWS)s to bring new products and platforms to market, Mitra felt it was time to run their own Hackathon.

As an internal hackathon, Hack’ed 2017 focuses on the theme of using new apps to improve the office environment.  Mitra Innovation’s CTO and Chief Architect, Sudaraka Jayashanka invited the teams participating in the Hackathon in order to brief them. “‘In our office environment, while carrying out day to day work, you must have felt If I had an app to do this, it would be more productive. Competing teams are expected to identify a scenario within Mitra Innovation’s office environment that is problematic and provide a brilliant solution in the form of an app.”

Solutions must be built entirely from scratch and within a time frame of no more than 10 hours, after which competing teams will present their solution to the judges’ panel and the winning teams will be awarded exciting prizes. All participating teams will be provided with an AWS account to provision the services needed to run and deploy their app solution.”

As part of the Hackathon, the eight teams can choose their technology of choice, as long as the solution is deployable on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Participating teams of Hack’ed 2017 will consist of five members and it is up to the teams to acquire the necessary skills required to build their solution.

Jayashanka went on to say “ the Hack’ed solutions will be evaluated by the judges, using the following criteria:
The selected idea with regard to the app and its relevance

  • User experience and usability

Mitra Innovation’s first ever internal Hackathon will be judged by an expert panel of esteemed IT and software development gurus. The judges are Hasith Yaggahavita, CTO of 99x, an award winning international software engineering company, Venura Mendis, CTO of WSO2.Telco, and Ashok Suppiah, CEO and Co-founder of Mitra Innovation.
