Running from the 12th to the 16th of October, the event will be held at The Beach Park, Port City Colombo. This is the first time an Oktoberfest event is being held at Port City Colombo, and is expected to attract a crowd of over 1,500 people each day with more footfall during the weekend.

This year’s rendition of the event titled, ‘Bavaria on the Beach’ sets the stage for German bands and hostesses, backed by a line-up of popular local bands. Festival goers will be able to indulge in authentic German cuisine within a carnival atmosphere. With an emphasis on being a family friendly event, traditional games and an activity zone for kids are available for their enjoyment.

Sun, sea, sand and a carnival is what Colombo Oktoberfest promises this year. Adding large doses of joie de vivre for the entire family, it’s five days of absolute enjoyment being held for the first time at the new exciting venue of The Beach Park at Port City Colombo. From the 12^th to the 16^th of October, festivities will begin each day from 6 pm until 1 am.

Into the equation of fun and frolic, Cinnamon Grand will be serving authentic German cuisine including a range of German sausages, pretzels, pork knuckles, ham, slow-cooked ribs and for the sweet tooth apple strudel and Bavarian ice cream. German hostesses in traditional dirndl and lederhosen will be in attendance with a wide selection of beverages to suit every discerning palate and keeping the party-goers in good spirits.

Adding more to the spirit and feel of Bavaria will be the Bavarian Party Band entertaining the merrymakers on all five days with Sri Lanka’s top bands Redeemers, OIC, Magic Box, Slipping Chairs and Misty helping keep the festive spirit in constant motion with toes tapping, hips swaying, hands clapping and voices in full swing.

Golden sands and balmy breezes form the perfect tropical backdrop to the fiesta which also has plans for an entire gamut of traditional Oktoberfest games promising to keep the adrenaline flowing as competition reigns high. The Kids Activity Zone will put the children in full carnival mood, making sure parents can fully enjoy the full length and breadth of the party on the beach.

To celebrate the world-renowned German festival Oktoberfest, Emirates will serve beloved Bavarian treats onboard flights to Munich, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, and Frankfurt, as well as the respective airport lounges, between the 17th of September and 2nd of October.

Serving its cosmopolitan customer base, Emirates celebrates many multicultural occasions on-board such as Diwali, Christmas, and Lunar New Year. The special celebration of Oktoberfest will see passengers enjoy a traditionally German main course and dessert in Economy, Business and First Class, bistro bites in the iconic onboard A380 lounge, and a variety of classic Oktoberfest dishes in the world-class airport lounges.

Passengers in Economy can feast on roasted chicken with paprika, served with creamy mustard sauce, potato wedges and braised red cabbage, followed by a Bienenstich- a signature German cream cake with almonds and honey, served with fruit compote. Business and First Class passengers will enjoy braised veal shank, roasted seasonal vegetables and moreish bread dumplings, and First Class passengers can indulge in Dampfnudel for dessert – a traditional sweet, steamed bun with a caramelised bottom and soft pillowy top, drizzled with vanilla sauce and whipped cream.

Tasty Oktoberfest sandwiches and snacks available on-board include Leberwurst sausage sandwich with sweet mustard, Austrian roll with Emmental cheese and gherkin, and the ultimate German savoury snack – pretzels. Before landing, passengers will be given a parting gift of individually wrapped gingerbread hearts.

In the airport lounges of Munich, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, and Frankfurt; an array of dishes will be available to customers including veal Weisswurst with parsley and mustard- a traditional Bavarian sausage. Guests can choose a light bite of Obazda and pretzel- a cheese delicacy, or indulge in some flavoursome chicken with parsley, classic potato salad and Käsepätzle – the German version of mac and cheese, made with egg noodles and Emmental.

Emirates currently offers three daily flights from Dubai to Frankfurt, double daily connections to Munich, as well as daily flights to Dusseldorf and Hamburg. Responding to the upsurge in passenger demand, the winter flight schedule will see additional flight operations planned on these routes from October 1st onwards.

Colombo, Wednesday 25^th October 2017: Colombo’s favourite entertainment hub Waters Edge will be the home for Oktoberfest at the Edge from the 26^th – 29^th of October 2017. The revelries will commence from 6pm onwards on the 26^th & 27^th and 12 noon onwards on the 28^th & 29^th. In true Oktoberfest grandeur a Bavarian band will be specially flown in for the occasion while renowned local bands like the Slipping Chairs and Magic Box Mix-Up will also entertain crowds throughout the four days.

In addition to this, there will be several exciting Oktoberfest games that will take place for the first time in Sri Lanka like the Virtual Reality Apple Hunt, Oktoberfest Cup Challenge, Oktoberfest Mug Slide, Oktoberfest Teufelsrad or the Devils Wheel, “Bob the Apple” and Beer Pong.

One of the highlights will be the traditional Bavarian delicacies like crispy Hendl (fried chicken), juicy Weisswurst (white sausage), soft Brezn (Bavarian pretzel), and Classic Haxn (Bavarian pork knuckle), must-have Sauerkraut and of course traditional desserts that will be made available for purchase. Furthermore, the highlight of the festival will be a wide range of brew which will be made available to celebrate the true spirit of Oktoberfest.
