Sadaharitha Plantations Limited, the pioneer in the Green Investment sector and leader in commercial forestry in Sri Lanka, created history on March 03 at a ceremony themed ‘Trust Rewarded’. During the milestone event in Sri Lanka’s Agarwood industry, Sadaharitha repurchased the Agarwood harvests from its customers upon the completion of their tenure by rewarding them with higher rate of returns-much higher than dividends offered by any financial institution.

The ‘Trust Rewarded’ event, held at Cinnamon Grand Hotel Colombo, was graced by Chairman of the Sadaharitha Group, Sathis Nawarathna who is a pioneer and veteran in introducing commercial forestry as a source of foreign exchange to Sri Lanka. The ‘Trust Rewarded’ event was conducted adhering to all the COVID-19 precautions. At the March 03 ‘Trust Rewarded’ event Sadaharitha – the first company to introduce Agarwood as a commercial forestry based investment – offered dividends to the customers who purchased spots in their first-ever plantation located in Neboda.

Sadaharitha Plantations, Sri Lanka’s undisputed leader in commercial forestry with over 2,000 acres of thriving forests and a portfolio of over 26,000 investors, was recognized at the National Sales Congress (NASCO) 2017 conducted by Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) recently. Two top achievers in the Company’s Sales Team received Bronze Awards at the Award Ceremony.

“Commercial forestry makes a significant contribution to preserving the environment for future generations by helping to mitigate global warming and making the planet green. We are proud and encouraged to be recognized for excellence on a national platform and receive this prestigious award” said the Chairman of Sadaharitha Plantations, Sathish Navarathna. “We are now on our 15^th year and this is the first time we have strived to secure an important national award and are delighted by this milestone success” he added.

NASCO is the only national level event to recognize and reward excellence to raise the standard of sales professionalism in the country and has been held for 9 consecutive years with an eminent panel evaluating the participants under 21 sectors. Sadaharitha Plantations competed under the Industry and Agriculture Sector. Nihal Tissera, Regional Manager won the Bronze Award under Territorial Managers category while Rasika Manatunga, Sales Promotion Officer won the Bronze Award under Front-liners category.

Tissera has been recognized for top performance consecutively at the annual Sadaharitha Forestry Awards. This year too he became the Best Regional Sales Manager with an overseas visit as his reward. Manatunga has achieved the Company’s record for the highest number of new business policies for a month and was adjudged the Winner for New Business Contribution.

The stringent judging process for NASCO Awards involved face-to-face interviews with a sub panel of 3-5 judges who evaluated the participants not only on their performance but also on their ability to articulate and develop skills to accept greater responsibilities. Territory Managers were required to give a 10 minute presentation prior to the interview with the judging panel.

Children’s Day was celebrated at the beginning of October across the world in various ways but perhaps the best way a parent or a grandparent can mark the day in a meaningful manner is to give a child a gift that grows and safeguards the environment as well.

Sathish Navarathna, Chairman of Sadaharitha Plantations explained that commercial forestry is an excellent investment that offers long term returns that go far beyond the benefits of regular savings. “Commercial forestry teaches a child that it is an ethical and socially responsible investment opportunity that brings high returns when the trees are ready for harvesting at maturity” he said. “In fact the investment thrives and grows as the child grows up and when he or she comes to an age when funds are required for higher education whether in Sri Lanka or overseas, Trees which were planted 8 or more years previously will reap a much-needed harvest to safeguard the child’s future” he added.

Over 26,000 customers have invested in Sandalwood, Teak, Mahogony, Rambutan or Agarwood plantations. Sadaharitha Plantations now maintain over 2,000 acres of commercial forests and won the Gold Green Award for their contribution to protecting the environment. Afforestation is the most economical way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that lead to global warming.

Sadaharitha maintains its plantations under ISO 14001 principles. In addition, the Company maintains natural forest patches whenever possible with the objective of conserving biodiversity while protecting and enhancing the landscape in the afforested area. In order to prevent any negative affects to the environment from chemical fertilizers, Sadaharitha produces over 500MT of compost annually within its plantation areas. Over 350 plantation workers with green employment opportunities and innovative forest-based income generation avenues, especially through the Agarwood Home-garden concept that has proved to be a boon for the villagers resident in the surrounding areas, helping to minimize poverty.

Agarwood is relative to the local endemic “Wallapatta”. The species is mainly found in the humid lowland forests in the southwest region. The elevation of this region is lower than 1,000 m and the annual rainfall is 2000-3000 mm while the average temperature is 25 to 27 C which is very much suitable to grow agarwood in Sri Lanka. International demand for agarwood is increasing as its resin is used to produce the most expensive of perfumes in the world enhancing its export potential for Sri Lanka.

Sadaharitha is Sri Lanka’s leading commercial forestry business, and is celebrating 15 years of contributing to protecting the environment by growing trees. The company has over 26,000 customers who have invested in forestry.

Sadaharitha Agri Farms & Exporters focuses on exports and has been thriving since its first shipment in 2011.
