The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Sri Lanka (MMCA Sri Lanka) invites students and the general public to experience the final guided tours of their exhibition ‘Total Landscaping’. The show will close its third and final Rotation on 29 May 2025, and you can join Senior Curator Sandev Handy and Assistant Curator Thinal Sajeewa of the MMCA Sri Lanka for insightful Curator Tours over the month of May. These tours will allow you to engage deeply with the artworks on display through the perspectives of the curatorial team that developed the exhibition.
The Curator’s Tour with Thinal will take place on Saturday, 3 and 17 May from 11 am to 12 pm. Thinal will take you through the conceptual and curatorial narratives that shaped Rotation 3 of ‘Total Landscaping’, and he will focus on how contemporary artistic practices reimagine familiar terrains and ecological consciousness within the Sri Lankan context.
Sandev’s walkthrough of the exhibition will touch upon the curatorial framework for ‘Total Landscaping’ that draws on both contemporary and historical references to explore the politics of land, nature, and built environments in Sri Lanka. You can join one of his tours on Sunday, 11 or 25 May from 11 am to 12 pm. We encourage you to register for these Curator’s Tours as soon as possible on the MMCA Sri Lanka’s Eventbrite page, as slots are limited.
What’s more, those seeking a different introduction to the artworks and themes of ‘Total Landscaping’ can join a Visitor educator from the MMCA Sri Lanka for an engaging Exhibition Tour on Thursday, 15 May from 5 to 6 pm.
Public programmes at the MMCA Sri Lanka promote critical engagement, learning, and conversation around the museum’s exhibitions. The guided tours provide a unique opportunity to hear from the curators and educators who shape the museum’s vision, and to experience artworks in a more informed and reflective way. All tours and other public programmes at the MMCA Sri Lanka are free of charge, and they will be held inside the MMCA Sri Lanka galleries, located at Crescat Boulevard, Colombo 03. The museum is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm, except on Poya and public holidays.
