UK PM orders UK-wide lockdown from Tonight

UK’s coronavirus death toll rises by 40 to 177 in biggest daily spike yet as 714 more Britons test positive for the life-threatening illness – taking infection toll to almost 4,000

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson told a press conference today that social premises that also include theatres, cinemas, gyms and sports centres must close ‘as soon as they reasonably can and not to reopen tomorrow’. It came amid fury at revellers mainly in London flouting pleas to stay at home, as the coronavirus death toll continues to climb to 177, with 40 more deaths today. A sombre-looking PM said that measures outlined on Monday for people to voluntarily self-isolate now had to go further as he ordered premises to close their doors. ‘I know it has been difficult … but these actions we are taking together are helping to take the strain off the NHS,’ he said. ‘We are telling – telling – cafes pubs, bars and restaurants to close tonight and not to open tomorrow.’

During the Past two days, 66 deaths were reported and with todays’ 40, it’s 106 deaths within 72 hours. Also the infected cases are also hitting over 650 per day. Today it’s recorded as 714 new cases, which is the highest per day in UK. Till to date the total infections in UK is 3983, and the total death were reported as 177. Over 1000 cases and 1/3 of the deaths were reported from London.

According to the Bing COVID19 Tracker  Global death toll is recorded as 11,187 i.e. out of 267,920 reported cases with in 164 countries.

During the week we have witnessed the Global Infection numbers surpassing the infection tally of mainland china, and right now it’s recorded as  184,800+. The top 10 infected countries are China, Italy, Spain, Germany, Iran, USA, France, South Korea, Switzerland, and United Kingdom. We have seen the slow movements in South Korea. We have seen huge daily jumps by Italy, Spain and Germany together with France and UK. It’s quite evident that still these top European companies along with United Kingdom have not hit their peak yet.

90,603 patients have recovered from COVID19, and bulk of them are from China i.e recorded as 58,382.

The danger is still not over, as there are 25,000 new cases recorded within a day to the Global tally. The total number of critical cases are 7,798.

Malaysia is the newest Asian country to pass 1000+ infections today. The global mortality rate is recorded as 4.1%. From the top 10 infected countries Italy has over 8.57% mortality rate followed by Iran’s mortality rate of 7.29%, then Spain with 5.11% and UK with 4.44%.

Sri Lanka’s exports to United Kingdom amounted to $1 billion or 8.9% of its overall exports.
