Mabroc Bubble Tea’s quest to infuse new relevance into a timeless favorite

Among the most famous alternative preparations of tea to rise to popularity both globally, and – more recently – locally, is Bubble Tea, a Taiwanese invention from the 1980s that continues to prove a lasting favorite all across the globe.

Originally prepared with a tea base that is mixed or shaken with fruit or milk, to which chewy tapioca balls are often added to deliver a uniquely irresistible flavor and texture which keeps fans of beverage coming back for more.

Having long produced and exported premium Ceylon Tea to markets across the globe, including several in the Asian region, Hayleys Group subsidiary, Mabroc Tea (Pvt.) Ltd has long been the final link in an integrated chain joining 38 plantations from source to cup.  Given the Hayleys Group’s reputation for innovation across its many diverse business verticals, it was therefore a natural leap for Mabroc to make from simply processing, packaging and selling premium Sri Lankan tea, to adapting their business model to also include Bubble Tea.

At present it is estimated that over 80% of Mabroc Tea exported to Taiwan is used solely in the production of Bubble Tea. In keeping with the tendency for exploring and experimenting with new growth opportunities that is inherent to the Hayleys philosophy, Mabroc enthusiastically set about designing their own unique twist on Bubble Tea for the Sri Lankan market.

Playing to its strengths

Mabroc Teas is a major exporter of quality Sri Lankan Tea, bridging the best of Ceylon Tea with the rest of the world, the company holds over two decades of industry expertise towards delivering premium quality of sustainable and ethically sourced pure Ceylon Tea

Starting with their first franchise at Liberty Plaza, Mabroc Bubble Tea has since expanded to cover three outlets at Crescat and Odel.

Leveraging on their established connections with Bubble Tea vendors across Taiwan, Mabroc sent senior members of its team to the country in order to train on the finer points of the business and ensure that each cup of Mabroc Bubble Tea that is made is kept to a high standard.

This attitude towards quality naturally translates to the ingredients used in Mabroc Bubble Tea. Utlizing the very same blend of premium Mabroc Tea that is used for producing Bubble Tea in Taiwan, to make its own variety, while the tapioca balls used in the preparation are imported directly from Taiwan, thus ensuring a level of quality that is unmatched in Sri Lanka.

Dazzling variety, ultimate convenience

Offering one of the widest selections of Bubble Tea – with over 35 blissfully colorful flavors in 8 separate ranges –  Mabroc Bubble Tea is prepared in two stages. First, the tea itself is brewed to an optimal level before being stored in flasks to contain the drinks at an even temperature. When ordered, the brewed tea is thereafter blended with milk, ice, sugar, and finally mixed with deliciously chewy tapioca bubbles before being sealed and served.

The convenience of Mabroc Bubble Tea is further enhanced by its recent partnership with Grasshopper for delivery since June this year.

Through the partnership, Bubble Tea fans can also enjoy its uniquely refreshing taste at their doorstep, while further plans are in the pipeline to introduce a mobile payment platform to facilitate even greater customer convenience.

Produced using 100% vegetarian, Halal certified ingredients, Mabroc Bubble Tea and fans are also encouraged to keep an eye out for the numerous themed deals on offer during festive seasons and other holidays, including Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s Day promotions.
