Colombo, Sri Lanka – June 2025 – Nestled within the historic Galle Face Hotel, 1864 Limited Edition offers more than just fine dining—it delivers a cultural and gastronomic immersion that fuses Sri Lankan heritage with global sophistication.

The restaurant’s gallery-inspired interiors feature works by celebrated local artists including Anoli Perera, Mahen Perera, and Pala Pothupitiye, creating a visual narrative that complements the culinary experience. But what truly sets 1864 apart is its role as a stage for international collaboration and innovation. From Chef’s Tables to exclusive pop-ups with Michelin Guide and World’s Top Chefs, the restaurant is a beacon for global gastronomic exchange—most notably with its 3-day culinary showcase at The Leela Palace Bengaluru in 2024.

At the helm is Chef Rukmal “Rukie” Samarasekera, Director of Culinary at Galle Face Hotel, a visionary with more than two decades of international culinary leadership. From Oman to Dubai, Bermuda to Italy, Chef Rukie has honed his craft across continents and cuisines—working with luminaries such as Gordon Ramsay, Didier Courlou, and Ferran Adria. His commitment to innovation and excellence has earned him over a dozen global awards and recently the title of “Best Chef of the Year” at the Sri Lanka Tourism Awards 2024.

A bold advocate for Sri Lankan flavours on the global stage, Chef Rukie blends native ingredients with modern techniques to create refined, expressive dishes. His signature Negombo Baked Crab with Crab Espresso is a fan favourite, exemplifying his commitment to storytelling through cuisine. Under his leadership, the restaurant has also embraced sustainability through in-house aging, the use of dehydrated salts, and nose-to-tail cooking principles.

Beyond its food, 1864 Limited Edition is a destination for curated experiences. Guests return weekly for signature events such as Sunday Cauvery, Butcher’s Night, and the restaurant’s dynamic cocktail menu, where handcrafted infusions and bold local flavours take center stage.

Whether you’re indulging in a signature cocktail at Butcher’s Night, experiencing the artistry of a Chef’s Table collaboration, or discovering bold new expressions of Sri Lankan cuisine, 1864 Limited Edition invites guests on a journey that is as refined as it is unforgettable. With its perfect harmony of taste, culture, and creativity, 1864 continues to redefine the fine dining landscape in Sri Lanka and beyond.
