With the theme ‘Connect, Collaborate & Win together’, the summit gave partners a platform  to discuss, learn and collaborate on how they can re-envision their business model to engage their customers, empower their employees, optimize their operations and transform their products with Microsoft. The company’s partner mission – “One Team” – celebrates partner successes, and focuses on helping them transform their customers’ operations with Microsoft solutions.  The two-day session also gave partners the opportunity to engage with Microsoft’s APAC leadership team, and gain insights into Microsoft’s latest product roadmap, programs and tools available to partners to accelerate their business.

A key highlight of the Partner Summit was the Partner Awards celebration night, which took place at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit hotel. Microsoft APAC leaders, including Michelle Simmons, General Manager of Southeast Asia New Markets, Valerie Beaulieu, General Manager of Small and Midmarket Partners Solutions Group, and other leaders attended the event.

The Sri Lankan partners who were recognized this year included: N-ABLE (Digital Transformation Award for Sri Lanka), Trident Corporation (Distributor Award for Top Revenue & OEM Award for Best Device Distributor-OEM & FPP), Tech One Global (Distributor Award for Top Cloud Growth), V S Information Systems (Reseller Award for Top YoY Growth) and H-ONE (LSP Award for Top Cloud Growth).

“I am delighted by the innovation and impact our partners have been delivering, and would like to congratulate all the winners at this year’s Partner Awards on their achievements,” said Michelle Simmons. “Our research has shown that just 44 percent of ASEAN business leaders believe they have a complete digital strategy in place, despite 91 percent saying they believe it is important to have an agile data-driven business. The 4th Industrial Revolution will bring profound change to Southeast Asian economies and we believe Microsoft, together with our partner ecosystem, has a unique opportunity to help businesses and organizations in their transformation journey, so as to empower millions of people in our region to achieve more.”

“It is immensely encouraging that so many of our partners were recognized at this year’s Awards Night. It serves as a testament to each company’s dedication towards pushing technology and digital transformation, reflecting Sri Lanka’s growing ICT industry. We have a strong partner ecosystem here in Sri Lanka, with over 100 partner organizations helping us to take our varied technologies to home users, businesses as well as public sector organizations and SMEs,” said Hasitha Abeywardena, Country Manager Microsoft Sri Lanka and Maldives.

Seedstars World, the global seed-stage startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes is coming back to Sri Lanka. The pitching event will be held on October 19th at 5pm in the Hive @ Foster Lane.

In line with its mission to place the spotlight on entrepreneurs from emerging markets, Seedstars World is travelling to more than 75 countries this year to identify the best seed-stage entrepreneurs and provide them with an opportunity to win up to USD 1 million and network with investors and mentors from around the world. Its previous participants have raised over USD 61M collectively, providing employment to more than 800 employees worldwide.

The companies selected to pitch at the Seedstars Colombo event need to be less than 2 years old, have raised less than USD 500,000 in funding and have built a minimum viable product, ideally with existing traction. The Seedstars World team is searching for one additional criterion – the startup’s regional and global scalability.

“Seedstars World is a platform connecting investors to the next generation of entrepreneurs, pulling the spotlight from Silicon Valley and Western Europe, and we have continuously seen innovative startups who do just that coming out of Sri Lanka. We are excited to be coming back to see what the ecosystem has to offer this year”, explains Rosie Keller, Regional Associate for Asia at Seedstars World.

8 startups will be selected to pitch, with the winning startup receiving an all-expenses paid trip to the Seedstars Asia Regional Summit in Bangkok, and the Seedstars Global Summit in Switzerland, where startups from more than 70 countries will meet with international mentors and investors, and pitch for up to $1 million in equity investment, along with a bevy of additional prizes.

Sri Lanka was previously represented by Layup, with it’s innovative solution to increasing employee engagement in corporate training programs through new learning approaches .

In order to provide tech entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka with this opportunity and to deliver the best possible event, Seedstars World is working closely with its Ambassador for Sri Lanka, Mangala Karunaratne, who says of the local ecosystem: ” The Sri Lankan ecosystem is relatively small and new, however we have some amazingly passionate founders and our engineering is second to none. What some of them lack is access to market and support for customer development, so events like Seedstars are absolutely what we need to fill that gap.”.

Orion City and Hatch are the main partners of Seedstars Colombo. Further crucial support is provided by MAS Holdings, Hive, and Exetel as key partners. SLASSCOM and Startup Sri Lanka further enable the event as ecosystem partners. The ICTA of Sri Lanka is supporting this event as the National Partner.

Startup founders who want to pitch at the October 19th event should apply before October 11th on the Seedstars Colombo website https://www.seedstarsworld.com/event/seedstars-colombo-2017. The eight startups selected will give a five minute pitch in English, in front of a jury made up of local startup heavyweights. Members of the public are welcome to come join the fun and should register on the above Seedstars Colombo website as well.
