The University of Peradeniya alumni who joined the Faculty of Science in 1975 will reconvene in June this year to celebrate their golden jubilee. The main event will take place on June 8, 2025, at the upper theatre of the Department of Chemistry, bringing together over a hundred alumni, many accompanied by their spouses.

Alumni are expected to travel from around the globe, from countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore. The Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof Sanath Rajapaksa, will grace the occasion along with several esteemed former teachers, whose guidance helped shape the paths of this accomplished cohort.

The day’s programme will commence with a formal meeting at the Faculty of Science, during which the former teachers will be felicitated and an e-souvenir will be launched to mark the occasion. This will be followed by a fellowship lunch at the Gal Bangalawa, a picturesque location nestled at the foot of the Hantane mountains, offering a relaxed setting for renewing friendship and reminiscing.

Prior to the main event, an alms-giving will be held on the 5th of June in honour of their departed colleagues and teachers- a solemn and heartfelt tribute by the batch.

To round off the jubilee celebrations, a two-day excursion to Riverston, Sigiriya, and Pidurangala has also been organised. The excursion will offer the participants a blend of leisure, culture, and continued camaraderie.

The Golden Jubilee celebrations have been made possible through the generous contributions of batchmates residing both in Sri Lanka and overseas, underscoring the deep bonds and enduring spirit of the 1975 Science batch.
