His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex, and Her Royal Highness, The Countess of Wessex visited Third Space Global, a British owned company which employs young Sri Lankans to deliver online one-to-one teaching to more than 6000 primary school children across the UK. Third Space Global also supports Sri Lankan education through its free eLearning Hubs for children and free Teaching Workshops for teachers.

The company used the visit to launch its new mission statement; “We seek social change by cultivating a global community of the most ambitious talent to make effective online teaching more accessible than ever before”, on a plaque unveiled by The Earl of Wessex.  Their Royal Highnesses were briefly part of this global community; joining a maths lesson with primary students back in the UK via Third Space Global’s virtual classroom.

The Royal couple were welcomed to Third Space Global by its CEO, Roshan Nilaweera, along with senior management and the CEO of Orion City, Jeevan Gnanam. The Earl and Countess of Wessex were given a tour of TSG’s recently opened office at Orion City where they saw firsthand the 200-strong staff delivering online teaching.

Their Royal Highnesses discussed the importance of education and the challenges and opportunities of a more connected world with Third Space Global Staff. Mr Nilaweera said, “I believe education is the most important investment a country can make in its future, and this applies to Sri Lanka as much as the UK. We should all feel very proud of the great role we play in supporting UK children whilst providing training and employment opportunities here in Sri Lanka.  We were delighted to host Their Royal Highnesses and discuss our shared commitment to education.”

The positive impact of this successful UK-SL education partnership will continue to grow as Third Space Global expands their operations and community projects in the coming months.
