INSEE Cement, the leading manufacturer of cement and cement-related products, has made history by becoming the first company in Sri Lanka to receive Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for its comprehensive product portfolio.

An EPD is an internationally recognized standard that offers comprehensive, standardized and third-party verified information regarding the environmental performance of products throughout their lifecycle. INSEE Cement’s diverse range of cement and cement-related products have undergone a stringent assessment and verification, assuring compliance with the highest sustainability product standards.

“At INSEE, we envision a future where construction harmonizes seamlessly with the environment. Our EPD certification represents a significant step towards that vision,” says Jan Kunigk, INSEE Cement’s Chief Executive Officer. “Our goal is to consistently provide our customers with top-quality, eco-friendly building solutions and we will drive ahead with our innovation and investments in sustainable practices.”

An EPD is a standardized document informing about a product’s environmental and human health impact. It’s based on the ISO 14025 standard and the scientific foot printing method Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The goal of an EPD is to inform and communicate with stakeholders about a product’s environmental impact.

By providing transparent and comprehensible information about the environmental impact of its products, INSEE Cement empowers architects, engineers, and builders to make informed choices that contribute to a greener, more sustainable future.

EPD International AB, a limited company registered in Sweden, is the programme operator and has the overall responsibility for the administration and operation of the International EPD System. Sebastiaan Stiller, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of EPD International AB commended INSEE Cement for its achievement. “In general, companies implement EPDs to transparently declare the environmental performance of their products. To demonstrate their commitment and contributions to a greener society. With INSEE being the first company in Sri Lanka receiving our EPDs is an achievement both the company and the country can be very proud of,” he said.

INSEE Cement is now exceptionally positioned to serve its customers with cutting-edge, sustainable building solutions that not only meet their construction needs but also significantly reduce carbon emissions and promote the responsible use of natural resources.
