Ophtha Innovations shines at SLASSCOM Awards 2023

Ophtha Innovations, a dynamic young startup, recently became the runner-up for the Best Disruptive Innovation/Western Province at the National Integrity Awards organised by the Sri Lanka Association for Software Services Companies (SLASSCOM). The national Information Technology (IT) – Business Process Management (BPM) chamber of Sri Lanka, SLASSCOM, recently organised the National Integrity Awards for the fifth consecutive year, honouring outstanding achievements in the field of innovation. Ophtha Innovations became the runner-up for the Best Disruptive Innovation in the Western Provincial Category. Ophtha was honoured for its groundbreaking solution that provides a cost-effective and accurate method for detecting, classifying, and localising the severity of diabetic retinopathy. This breakthrough technology enables early detection and treatment of the disease, significantly reducing the risk of blindness as well as minimising the overall cost of treatment.

Founded by a team of talented young innovators, Ophtha Innovations has now become a prominent player in the technology industry. Keerthi Kodithuwakku, Shashika Munasingha and Akira Ikeda are at the helm of Ophtha Innovations, and guiding a team that comprises a diverse group of engineers and data science professionals. In 2022, Ophtha was honoured with the Jury Special Mentioning Award at the Commonwealth Digital Health Awards, Sri Lanka. They were also among the Final 15 selected for the Spirilation 15,000 USD Fund Programme launched by the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), Sri Lanka in 2021. The Company was among the final 10 in the Sri Lanka Telecom Startup Studio 10,000 USD Fund Programme. Moreover, in 2018, Ophtha became the first runner-up in the Innovators Television Programme, ‘Kotiyak Vatina Adahasak’ (similar to Shark Tank) in Sri Lanka. “We, at Ophtha, are passionately working towards the development of innovative solutions to address the ever-growing challenge of diabetic retinopathy.
