Global narrow fabric provider for leading intimates, swimwear, and activewear brands uses Oracle Autonomous Database to boost real-time insights, increase agility, and achieve faster decision making.

Colombo, Sri Lanka – September  13, 2022: Stretchline Holdings, the world’s largest manufacturer of the narrow elasticated fabric used by many of the world’s leading intimates, swimwear, and activewear brands, has gone live with Oracle Autonomous Database for analytics and data warehousing (ADW) on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)  to create a single, near real-time view of its data as well as automate and streamline processes to boost decision making. With these services, Stretchline can consolidate data from its ten manufacturing plants in just 1.5 days compared to 7-8 days.  Its Group Finance team has gained timely access to clean, comprehensive, and accurate data. The new semi-automated flows will ensure timely availability of the global Stretchline data, which the Operating Board and the management can use to monitor the company’s performance and make data-driven decisions.

With interest in activewear increasing, a rise in the number of people working from home, and global supply chains severely disrupted, the company wanted to boost its analytic capabilities to anticipate customer demand better. After evaluating solutions from various providers, Stretchline selected Oracle’s machine-learning-powered, self-managing, autonomous data warehouse for its superior performance, agility, high availability, and built-in security.

“We work closely with many well-known apparel brands to innovate, anticipate trends, and ensure the supply of the elastomeric products they need to help them respond and meet the needs of their customer base. To ensure that we understand their challenges and our own, we needed to re-think and re-imagine how we collect, process, manage and use data. We need to democratize our analytics capabilities internally, so we can put insights into the hands of all those who need them to run their business,” Shanaka Rabel, Group Chief Digital and Transformation Officer, Stretchline Holdings. “With ADW on OCI, we have been able to create a central ‘data lake’ that has significantly improved our reporting abilities and time. This has influenced a positive change to collect any missing data at the origin and standardize our metrics for success across the company. It has also enabled us to streamline and improve our value stream, helping us identify which plant produces what (where possible) to fulfil customer orders, speeding up delivery times, and reducing costs.”

By leveraging ADW and Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), Stretchline now has a highly responsive, resilient, and scalable cloud-based system that streamlines and automates reporting and data reconciliation processes; and report generation now takes 4X less time than previously. At the group level, this has helped the finance team to focus more on financial analysis and risk scenarios using data patterns and metrics. Additionally, access to critical data and insights enable the Operating Board to make better strategic decisions.

“Today, organizations have more access to data than ever before but having to process and consolidate data from multiple sources is often time-consuming and error-prone, slowing down decision making,” said Nalin Sikurajapathy, Head of Technology – Sri Lanka & Maldives, Oracle. “With ADW on OCI, Stretchline can now take advantage of the embedded machine-learning and AI capabilities of Oracle Autonomous Database to accelerate decision making, improve productivity, quickly respond to changing customer needs, and tap new business opportunities.”

Altria Consulting (Pvt) Ltd, a member of Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN), implemented the project for Stretchline Holdings. For the next stage, Stretchline aims to automate other operational systems within the organization to go fully digital within the next few years.

The 12-week program helps unemployed and underemployed individuals build cloud skills and launch a career in tech

[Colombo, June 6, 2022] In order to address the widening skills gap in the cloud computing sphere and provide individuals the opportunity to build cloud skills, CurveUp, a leading technology consultancy and education provider, is collaborating with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to provide free cloud computing skills development and job training through the AWS re/Start program across Sri Lanka.

AWS re/Start is a 12-week training program that covers fundamental AWS Cloud skills as well as practical career skills, such as interviewing and resume writing, to help individuals prepare for entry-level cloud roles.

The IT sector in Sri Lanka employs 150,000 people, exhibiting tremendous interest in the sector. The internet penetration has covered more than 50% of entire the population[1], and the post-Covid environment has further enabled online-based learning in Sri Lanka[2]. Together, CurveUp and AWS re/Start are helping to build an inclusive, diverse global pipeline of new cloud talent by engaging individuals who otherwise might not have had access to this career path.

The program helps prepare unemployed or underemployed individuals, including those without any IT experience or traditional higher education, who are seeking to launch new careers in the highly evolving technology sector. Mohammed Fawaz, Founder of CurveUp said, Sri Lanka undoubtedly has immense potential when it comes to its diverse pool of talent and resources. We couldn’t be happier with this collaborative effort with AWS. Initiating the AWS re/Start program may open doors to many opportunities to people willing to develop their knowledge and skills in cloud, and we look forward to welcoming individuals from all walks of life.”

The program focuses on skills development, including for Linux, Python, networking and security, and relational databases, and will include scenario-based exercises, hands-on labs, and coursework. The program will be taught through an online learning platform by certified and experienced trainers. AWS re/Start is free to learners, and also covers the cost to take the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam. This AWS Certification helps validate the cloud skills of the leaners with an industry-recognized credential.

Emmanuel Pillai, Head of AWS Training and Certification, Amazon Web Services Singapore Private Limited in ASEAN, said, “As a native Sri Lankan, I am proud to see the AWS re/Start launch in this country. AWS re/Start brings “net-new” talent into the workforce, establishing a win-win-win scenario for individuals to launch successful careers in cloud, organizations to increase their competitive edge with in-demand talent, and communities to thrive and grow. We are proud to work with CurveUp to build the diverse, robust cloud workforce of the future enabling organizations to accelerate their innovation with the AWS Cloud.”

Ultimately, AWS re/Start helps individuals prepare for entry-level cloud roles, such as cloud operations, site reliability, and infrastructure support. This collaboration with AWS re/Start allows CurveUp to nuture cloud talent in Sri Lanka and create a strong learning environment which benefits the industry at large. CurveUp can also identify and fulfil untapped talent and may provide them with job opportunities by connecting them with many large employers in the country.

The AWS re/Start program is part of Amazon’s efforts to help 29 million people globally grow their cloud computing skills for free by 2025.

On May 19, the Asia-Pacific Digital Innovation Congress 2022 opened in Singapore. Huawei, together with the ASEAN Foundation, worked with customers, experts, scholars, and analysts to discuss new scenarios and directions for digital economy and industry innovation. At the “cloud service” industry forum, Jacqueline Shi, President of Global Marketing and Sales Service of HUAWEI CLOUD, delivered a keynote speech.

In 2021, HUAWEI CLOUD released its latest strategy, “Dive into digital with Everything as a Service.” “Everything” includes Huawei’s vision and understanding of the industry. In the past, when we talked about cloud services, the most people know about IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS. Most of the time, they were presented from the perspective of a technology provider. Digital transformation in many industries, however, requires not only technologies and resources, but also experience, services, ideas, and everything that can be shared.

Over the past 30 years, Huawei has earned extensive trust from customers and partners in the carrier and enterprise markets by adhering to the principles of “good service, good quality, quick response to customer requirements, technological innovation to create customer value, and win-win cooperation with ecosystem partners.” Embedded with same values and business strategy, HUAWEI CLOUD continues to create trustworthy and innovative cloud services to realize our commitment of “in Asia-Pacific, for Asia-Pacific.”

In his speech, Zeng Xingyun, President of HUAWEI CLOUD Asia-Pacific, reviewed HUAWEI CLOUD’s rapid growth in 2021 and its advantages in localized services in the Asia-Pacific market.

Zeng pointed out that, “There are six strategies of Huawei CLOUD in Asia-Pacific. In terms of industry strategy, we focus on “Infrastructure as a Service, Technology as a Service, and win-win with ecosystem partners” to continuously improve the core competitiveness of Huawei Cloud. In terms of market strategy, we focus on ‘Dive into digital transformation, accelerate cloud native and business innovation, and build the best 2B services’ to continuously create value for customers.”

HUAWEI CLOUD has been operating in Asia-Pacific since 2018. After four years of development, HUAWEI CLOUD has risen to No. 2 in China, No. 3 in Thailand, and No. 4 in developing markets in Asia-Pacific, becoming the fastest growing cloud provider among the top 5 frontrunners in the region. HUAWEI CLOUD Region has been launched in Hong Kong (China), Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia. It will also be introduced this year in Indonesia, with access points to be deployed in Philippines, Vietnam, India, Japan, and South Korea.

In 2021, HUAWEI CLOUD’s key customers in the Asia-Pacific region will increase by 156%, and the number of ecosystem partners will grow by 90%. What’s more exciting is that revenue of our partners will rise by 150%, which is higher than HUAWEI CLOUD’s revenue.

In 2022, new services such as global network acceleration service (GA), real-time audio and video service (SparkRTC), software development production line (DevCloud), and financial distributed database GaussDB (for openGauss) , will be launched in the Asia-Pacific market to continuously improve the competitiveness of our cloud solutions in the region.

  • Real-time audio and video cloud service (SparkRTC): Cross-continent latency < 200 ms
  • Global Network Acceleration Service (GA): Reduces cross-country access E2E latency by 50%, satisfying service needs like real-time competitive gaming.
  • DevCloud: Based on Huawei’s 30-year R&D practices, DevCloud is used by over 100,000 R&D workers on a broad scale.
  • GaussDB (for openGauss): A financial-class distributed database, which has been verified on a large scale in the most demanding scenarios.

Up till now, HUAWEI CLOUD has 27 regions, 65 AZs (Availability Zones), and 2,800 CDN nodes worldwide. Meanwhile, through cooperating with 6000+ partner applications, we are serving customers in a wide range of industries in 170 countries and regions, with 220+ cloud services and 210+ solutions, and contributing to global digital transformation.

The additional capacity will help increase the proliferation of faster and more affordable internet, Cloud and cyber security services to the African people and businesses

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 11, 2022/APO Group/ —

Liquid Intelligent Technologies (https://www.Liquid.Tech/), a business of Cassava Technologies, has partnered with PEACE Cable Company to introduce 800Gbps of additional subsea capacity in Mombasa on the highly-anticipated global submarine cable. This will increase the availability of high-performance and reliable Internet connectivity access across Africa, leveraging Liquid’s 100,000km of terrestrial fibre across 12 countries. While acting as a new global internet route between Asia, Europe and the USA, the additional capacity will help increase the proliferation of faster and more affordable internet, Cloud and cyber security services to the African people and businesses.

Liquid Dataport (a division of Liquid Intelligent Technologies) CEO David Eurin said, “We are delighted to provide new subsea capacity between Mombasa, Karachi and Marseille, with extensions planned towards Singapore and Asia. This creates a cost-effective, low-latency and diverse route that our customers can leverage to serve their business-critical connectivity needs. The submarine cable will be ready in 2022.”

Liquid already has access to many subsea cables around Africa like Equiano, WACS, SAT3/SAFE, EASSy, TEAMS, SEACOM and later 2Africa. With the new PEACE cable, the continent will benefit from much-needed additional capacity from the East Coast of Africa to Europe. Additionally, it will add diversity to an important route, allowing for improved redundancy and low latency (102ms between Mombasa and Marseille).

“We see around a 40-50% growth in internet traffic every year, so we invest massively in subsea cables to provide the best Internet experience across all countries in Africa,” explained Eurin. “We have been working closely with PEACE to extend the subsea capacity to more landlocked countries (including Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Burundi and the north-east of DRC). This is critical for our customers to leverage higher bandwidth, and it is expected to make the internet faster and more affordable in the region”.

Liquid’s 100,000 km terrestrial fibre backbone was a major point of interest in the partnership with PEACE. Through its extensive network, Liquid will extend this new capacity to many destinations, including access to other subsea cable landing stations, such as Luanda in Angola, Muanda in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Pointe Noire in Congo. This has led to the first protected, reliable, and high-capacity route between the two coasts of the continent, enabling a new global internet route between Asia and the USA (via Africa).

“Connecting Africa to the rest of the world and unleashing its young and dynamic workforce potential may be the key to catapulting Africa’s international trade and economies to a whole new level. The PEACE deal is another crucial step on that journey,” concluded Eurin.
