The Group is looking to cherry-pick cabin crew, pilots, engineers, IT professionals and customer service agents at both Emirates and dnata.

Fortinet Releases New Research on Key Concerns around the Cybersecurity Talent Shortage, Recruitment, Diversity, and Security Awareness

Fortinet, a global leader in broad, integrated, and automated cybersecurity solutions, recently released its 2022 Cybersecurity Skills Gap Report. The new global report reveals that the cybersecurity skills shortage continues to have multiple challenges and repercussions for organizations, including the occurrence of security breaches and subsequently loss of money. As a result, the skills gap remains a top concern for C-level executives and is increasingly becoming a board-level priority. The report also suggests ways the skills gap can be addressed, such as through training and certifications to increase employees’ education.

Commenting on this report, Vishak Raman, Vice President of Sales, India, SAARC and SEA at Fortinet said; “According to the Fortinet report released today, the skills gap isn’t just a talent shortage challenge, but it’s also severely impacting business, making it a top concern for executive leaders worldwide. Through Fortinet’s Training Advancement Agenda (TAA) and Training Institute programs, we are committed to tackling the challenges revealed in the report through various initiatives, including programs focused on cybersecurity certifications and recruiting more women into cyber. As part of this commitment, Fortinet has pledged to train 1 million professionals to increase cyber skills and awareness and make a dent in the skills gap by 2026.”

The Widespread Global Impact of the Cybersecurity Skills Shortage

According to (ISC)2’s 2021 Cyber Workforce Report, the global cybersecurity workforce needs to grow 65 percent to effectively defend organizations’ critical assets. While the number of professionals needed to fill the gap has decreased from 3.12 million down to 2.72 million in the past year, this is still a significant void that leaves organizations vulnerable.

Fortinet’s report demonstrates multiple risks resulting from the cybersecurity skills gap. Most notably, 8 in 10 organizations surveyed have suffered at least one breach they could attribute to a lack of cybersecurity skills or awareness. The survey also showed that globally 64 percent of organizations experienced breaches that resulted in loss of revenue, recovery costs and/or fines.

Given the increasing costs of breaches on organizations’ profits and reputation, cybersecurity is becoming more of a board level priority. Globally, 88 percent of organizations that have a board of directors reported that their board asks questions specifically about cybersecurity. And 76 percent of organizations have a board of directors who has recommended increases in IT and cybersecurity headcount.

Advancing Cybersecurity Skills Through Training and Certifications

Fortinet’s skills gap report demonstrated that training and certifications are critical ways organizations seek to further tackle the skills gap. The report revealed that 95 percent of leaders believe technology-focused certifications positively impact their role and their team, while 81 percent of leaders prefer to hire people with certifications. Additionally, 91 percent of respondents shared they are willing to pay for an employee to achieve cyber certifications. One major reason for certifications being highly regarded is due to their validation of increased cybersecurity knowledge and awareness.

In addition to valuing certifications, 87 percent of organizations have implemented a training program to increase cyber awareness. However, 52 percent of leaders believe their employees still lack necessary knowledge, which raises question around how effective their current security awareness programs are.

For organizations looking for security awareness training, Fortinet offers a Security Awareness and Training service through the award-winning Fortinet Training Institute. The service further protects organizations’ critical digital assets from cyber threats by building employee cybersecurity awareness. This service receives updates from Fortinet’s FortiGuard Labs threat intelligence so that employees are learning and keeping up with the latest evolving cyberattack methods to prevent company breaches and risks from being introduced.

Addressing Recruitment and Retention Challenges with Diversity Commitments

A significant challenge for organizations has been finding and retaining the right people to fill critical security roles ranging from cloud security specialists to SOC analysts. The report found that 60 percent of leaders admit their organization struggles with recruitment and 52 percent struggle to retain talent.

Among hiring challenges is the recruitment of women, new college graduates and minorities. Globally, 7 out of 10 leaders see the recruitment of women and new graduates as a top hiring hurdle and 61 percent said hiring minorities has been challenging. As organizations look to build more capable and more diverse teams, 89 percent of global companies have explicit diversity goals as part of their hiring strategy according to the report. The report also demonstrated 75 percent of organizations have formal structures to specifically recruit more women and 59 percent have strategies in place to hire minorities. Additionally, 51 percent of organizations have efforts in place to hire more veterans.

XpressJobs and eLearning.lk have announced a new partnership to help Sri Lankan job seekers gain the skills needed for school leavers and graduates to take the first steps of their career or even experienced employees transition into a new role in their career. To that end, the two organisations have launched an online learning platform called school.xpress.jobs.

Accessible to all with a profile on XpressJobs, the platform contains several courses created by eLearning.lk to help job seekers obtain the skills sought after by employers. But this is only the beginning as the partnership will offer free mentorship and other guidance to help Sri Lankans build fulfilling careers. The partnership mainly benefits two types of job seekers; School leavers and graduates who are undecided about their careers while lacking experience, and experienced professionals seeking to transition to a new role to unlock the next chapter of their careers.

The two organizations have launched an online learning platform accessible to all with a profile on XpressJobs. The platform contains several courses created by eLearning.lk covering a variety of topics ranging from marketing to HR to programming to law and even professional certifications by IELTS. This powerful combination of XpressJobs and eLearning.lk means job seekers are ready to work as soon they’re hired without the need for lengthy training periods. Importantly, the platform helps candidates confidently showcase their skills to their potential employers. For example, if a company is looking for a candidate skilled in digital marketing, then the badges on their profile indicate the courses they’ve completed to prove their proficiency.

Due to its popularity, XpressJobs is keenly aware of what recruiters and hiring managers seek from applicants. Hence, eLearning.lk is then able to offer career targeted curriculums in their courses, which would be conducted by the best instructors available in the relevant industry. All of these courses would be made available on the school.xpress.jobs platform in the comfort of their homes without having to attend physical lectures. This powerful combination of XpressJobs and eLearning.lk means job seekers are ready to work as soon they’re hired without the need for lengthy training periods.

The learning platform is only the first initiative of many undertaken by the partnership between XpressJobs and eLearning.lk. Moving forward, the two organisations are planning to offer free mentoring and organise workshops covering several topics on helping job seekers land their dream jobs, such as preparing a CV, facing interviews, career guidance, and helping them resolve gaps in their skillsets. The overarching vision of the partnership is a simple yet ambitious one. Working together, XpressJobs and eLearning.lk aim to ensure that after an employer posts an open position and the skills required for it, anyone interested in applying for it will have a clear pathway to gain those skills. While a grand vision, both companies are positioned to make a reality.

Ultimately, the collective efforts brought on by the partnership between XpressJobs and eLearning.lk will go a long way towards addressing the skills gap between employers and candidates. In doing so, it’ll help recruiters quickly identify the talent they desire, school leavers/undergraduates secure their dream jobs, and experienced employees unlock a new chapter in their careers.

A recruitment platform built to help businesses navigate the ‘new normal’ in the pandemic-struck economy

Rooster Jobs is a free of charge end-to-end recruitment platform and Applicant Tracking System (ATS) designed to help businesses source suitable candidates. The platform was launched on 11th of May with the motive to assist businesses navigate hiring efficiency amidst the turbulent environment created by Covid-19. Within a short span of time, Rooster has acquired over 1000 candidate visits per day while 150 companies have employed Rooster to streamline their hiring process.

In addition to being an ATS, the services rendered by Rooster are candidate management, recruitment automation, recruitment analytics, automated candidate updates, career page integration and live synchronization while many more features are being added regularly.

The platform understands the need to establish an efficient, easy-to-use hiring structure within the local business community. Rooster has also extended its services to help fulfill this need by collaborating with several companies in order to train HR teams and provide free ads on multiple job boards during its introductory period (21st April 2020 – 21st April 2021).

“We wanted to create a platform that has the capability to truly improve the way businesses hire people as we ourselves realized how inefficient some hiring practices can be,” says Bhanuka Harischandra, Co-Founder of Rooster Jobs. “Having interviewed hundreds of candidates over the years, we have understood that manually maintaining spreadsheets, parsing through CVs and individually calling applicants consume a lot of time and resources. Rooster was created to help the Sri Lankan business community embrace efficient and collaborative hiring while also refining and improving the candidate experience. We aim to improve both ends of the spectrum.”

The hiring process observed by most companies in Sri Lanka currently involves running advertisements on various job portals, an assortment of spreadsheets and several one-to-one interviews that cost a lot of time and effort. Traditional recruitment procedures often lack structure and proper organization. In order to shift from traditional HR practices, organizations need to incorporate an Applicant Tracking System (ATS).

An ATS is a database management system that helps hiring managers and recruiters to organize and sort candidate CVs. They can incorporate filters, search for applicants through keyword searches or pick candidates based on the compatibility between the resume and job description through the system. Many ATSs also go beyond basic applicant tracking and offer advanced features such as video screening, live syndication and recruitment workflow integration. This process not only helps better organize the hiring process, but it also reduces in-person interactions, which is an ideal solution to maintain social distancing.

“We mapped the candidate journey at Rooster and designed the platform in a way that would keep each candidate informed in every step of the way. We have added features that notify applicants on where they stand in the hiring process and automated updates to alert them when they’ve made it to the next step or have been rejected.”  Harischandra further added.

ATS is a common technology deployed by 99% of the Fortune 500 companies to help recruit in a smarter way. But most Applicant Tracking Systems are rather expensive with popular products like Greenhouse.io setting starting prices between $6,000 to $25,000. Rooster, with its innovative hiring tools comes in as an affordable alternative to facilitate the recruitment process.

Covid-19 has undeniably changed the social landscape and protocols like social distancing have created a need for companies to reevaluate their stance on hiring procedures. Now more than ever, businesses need to limit face-to-face interviews, reduce costs of hiring and implement better candidate screening to ensure great recruits. Hiring the right employees could also mean that companies are equipped with the right people to help navigate the difficult times ahead effectively.

More information about the platform can be obtained from https://business.rooster.jobs/

With so much emphasis on using data to make efficient decisions, XpressJobs created a dashboard that will help HR managers and executives understand their recruiting numbers.

XpressJobs, a recruitment services company that creates innovative tech-based solutions to solve recruitment problems, built an all-encompassing dashboard to complement their existing job portal. This dashboard allows HR managers to get analytics on valuable data on all applications they receive via the XpressJobs job portal. Analytics include the number of CVs that the company received, number of CVs that were opened by the HR team, CVs that were eligible for the job, how many applicants passed or failed the mandatory questionnaires, how many applicants booked for an interview and so on.

Caption: HR teams get an overall picture of the quality of candidates as seen above.

“I’ve seen the way data can change the way we function. When we sit with our clients and go through their data to get a better picture of what happens, it isn’t that the ideal candidate hasn’t applied, but the client just didn’t notice them,” says Dr Oshadie Kirale, COO of XpressJobs. The problem is that most organisations are unable to go through the large number of CVs that they receive. A large organisation of up to 4000 employees would get up to 2000 CVs per month out of which only 200 or so get shortlisted selected even though at least 400 are eligible. This means that 200 potential candidates who would be valuable assets to the organisation go unnoticed.

“There is no direct way HR managers get feedback on their teams’ performance. We’ve seen many companies where HR teams say that they didn’t get CVs but when we check the system, that’s not the case,” added Oshadie. Not only does this show statistics, but HR managers are also able to see the performance of their HR teams.

The dashboard displays all this data in palatable charts and graphics that anyone can understand. Most companies also don’t invest in Human Resources but only in marketing. However, what they fail to realise is that without the right people pushing them forward, their business isn’t going to achieve its fullest potential. Some companies are also reluctant to try new things which can stop innovation-driven progress. “Having these numbers help target the right candidate. It helps managers understand if they get more leads by asking for CVs or using our CV-less system. You can even learn which day of the week to post the job application to get maximum exposure. We want companies to not recruit blindly but really get to the bottom of why they struggle to hire,” says Oshadie who’s all for data-driven decision making in HR requirement and championing the cause of improving recruitment beyond standard job portals.

As an innovative tech-based problem solver, XpressJobs has been in operation for over four years. Their solutions provide recruiters with many features such as a filtering system that allows employers to accurately assess eligible candidates, a CV-less application system specially tailored for organisations who are seeking out blue colour workers, SMS alerts to make interviews more efficient and video job advertisements. This dashboard has been introduced to the 4000 clients working with XpressJobs at the moment such as HSBC, Keells, Softlogic, Dialog, ,Hayleys and Hemas etc., XpressJobs is the first among recruitment portals in Sri Lanka to enable their clients to use statistics in real-time.
