A 57-member Sri Lanka contingent left the country early Sunday morning to take part in the Toyota Gazoo Racing Badminton Asia U17 & U15 Junior Championships which will take place at the Central Changwattana Mall in Nonthaburi in the Thailand capital.

The tournament will see the Sri Lankan juniors in contest against shuttlers from 15 countries, including traditional badminton powerhouses Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia and Singapore from November 29-December 4.

Other countries which take part in the tournament, organized by the Thailand Badminton Association under the auspices of the Badminton Asia Confederation, are – Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam, Myanmar, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Brunei and hosts Thailand.

Sri Lanka contingent for the tournament consists of U15 and U-17 boys and girls teams, six coaches, team manager, head of delegation and two lady chaperons representing Sri Lanka Badminton and the Sri Lanka Schools Badminton Association.

People’s Bank has entered into a strategic alliance with Toyota Lanka (Private) Limited to provide Corporate Solutions. The tie-up will help to leverage People’s Bank’s state-of-the-art Corporate Digital Solutions to fulfill local and international financial requirements of Toyota Lanka.

An agreement announcing the strategic alliance was exchanged by Sujeewa Rajapakse – Chairman of People’s Bank and Manohara Atukorala – Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of Toyota Lanka at the People’s Bank Head Office in Colombo 02 recently. Toyota Lanka is the Sole Authorized Distributor for Toyota & HINO vehicles in Sri Lanka and a      fully-owned subsidiary of Toyota Tsusho Corporation (TTC), Japan and therefore a global member of the prestigious Toyota Group Japan. In addition to the standard features, the state-of-the-art ATM offers cardless cash transactions and withdrawals, modified to better suit customer needs. Toyota Lanka (Private) Limited, the sole authorized distributor of Toyota and HINO vehicles, services and spare parts in Sri Lanka today extended their assistance to Sri Lanka’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, by way of a vehicle donation worth 20 million rupees. The donation of two units of Toyota Coaster buses took place at the Presidential Secretariat Office under the patronage of His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa,  Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Secretary to the President Dr. P.B Jayasundara, Principal Advisor to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Chairman of the State Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Corporation (SPMC) Dr. Uthpala Indrawansa, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Toyota Lanka Manohara Atukorala, General Manager Sales Udaya Francis and Senior Head Service Operations, Nihal Palliyaguruge.

The Toyota Coaster buses were accepted by the Health Ministry, od which one unit will be utilized for special projects undertaken by the Medical Research Institute (MRI), for the purpose of transportation of research, test kits, staff and other essential medical equipment including for epidemic control, while the other unit for the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) will be used for health promotion projects with regards to communicable and non-communicable disease prevention in Sri Lanka.

“Effective action, allocation of resources, undertaking emergencies by the authorities and regulations imposed reflects true situational leadership of our President, Gotabaya Rajapakse. His exemplary leadership is an example to other developed nations in the West and East. With the establishment of the President’s “COVID-19 Healthcare & Security Fund” clarion call of the both public and private sector were imminent. To this cause Toyota Lanka’s donation comes as a collaborative effort of all our staff who contributed generously through the Toyota Lanka Welfare Society whereas one unit from the company. I also take this opportunity to thank and praise the effort of all our frontline heroes in the armed forces, health sector and others who are working tirelessly to make Sri Lanka, the 1st Nation in the World, to be pronounced COVID-19 Free” Atukorala further added.

Toyota Lanka (Private) Limited, the National Distributor for Toyota and Hino vehicles in Sri Lanka, recently held the second consecutive Hino National Skills Contest to enhance and uplift the skills of Hino Service Technicians within the company’s ranks.

Under the wings of Toyota Lanka (Private) Limited, the Hino Sales, Service & Spare Parts (3S) team last year inaugurated the Skills Contest focusing towards the development of skilled commercial vehicle technicians and sharpening their inner skills.With the continuous strength and support of the technical and management representatives at Hino Motors Limited, the skill contest was a one-of-a-kind event, while further enhancing skills and boundless competencies in lining with the total support philosophies of Hino Motor Corporation.

The winner of the competition was Amila Nuwan Karunanayaka whom will be contesting at the Global level skill contest, whereas Sanjeewa De Almeida was awarded the 1st runner up.  The winners also received certification and the champion award by Hino Motors, whereas the cash rewards and the trophies were awarded by Mr. Shungo Yoshioka the Managing Director of Toyota Lanka (Private) Limited.

Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Manohara Atukoralacommenting on this year’s contest said, “With the rapid developments in theSri Lankan truck market, the demand in remote locations shows an improvement along with the sales of over 800 trucks. Therefore we see an increase in the need for after sales service by skilled technicians. This contest allows not just our staff to grow their potential but to also be competitive in the wider world.”

Meanwhile Hino,also inaugurated the “HINO Defensive Driver Technical Seminar 2017” to build the awareness between their key valued clients recently. The event took place recently at OZO Colombo 04 which saw the participation of Hino Manager and senior business partners to spread the idea of handling the technical difficulties at any phase. In order to further improve the scheduled program, an outsourced veteran lecturer for defensive driver training Mr. Weerasinghe was also invited.

The program content was delivered very broadly where the key components discussed included the safety and economical driving, preventive maintenance, new truck features and technologies while educating through total support services. Also there was an interactive presentation regarding the periodic maintenance schedule.
