Ritzbury inspires budding athletes via Sir John Tarbat Schools’ Athletic Championship

Colombo, 27th June 2017: The premier chocolate brand of Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL), Ritzbury, Sri Lanka’s No. 1 chocolate demonstrates its commitment to uplifting sports in Sri Lanka by continuing its tradition of sponsoring the Sir John Tarbat Schools’ Athletic Championship for the 6th consecutive year.

This year, the prestigious Championship has attracted the highest ever number of over 7000 school  athletes, both boys and girls, from schools across the country making it one of the most important events in the school athletic calendar. Consistent and inspiring communications by Ritzbury have motivated more school athletes to vie for the Championship.

This year, the organizers, Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association (SLSAA) have re-structured the Junior Championship to accommodate all the eager participants by dividing it into three rounds in each of the three zones in which the meets are held.

Phase 1 of the Junior Championship kick started at the Royal College Grounds, Polonnaruwa with budding athletes from Northern, Eastern, North Central and North Western Provinces vying with each other on June 16th and 17th. The next phase will be held from June 30th to July 1st at Royal College grounds, Hanwella giving school athletes in the Southern and Western Provinces the opportunity to show their athletic prowess. School athletes in Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces will compete with each other at Jayathilake Grounds, Nawalapitiya showcasing their talents on August 5th and 6th. The final meet, leading to an exciting finish will be held from September 23rd to 25th at the Bogambara Stadium, Kandy.

The Sir John Tarbat Senior Schools’ Athletic Championship has also attracted the highest number of over 5000 school athletes from 200 schools and the all-island final meet will be held at Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium Grounds, Diyagama from July 4th to 6th.

President of SLSAA, N.A.D.R.
