The program provides a comprehensive understanding of foundational concepts in mathematics, physics, and programming, where students will learn to apply these concepts to tackle engineering problems and implement creative solutions. Upon completion of the Diploma, students can apply for advanced standing to enter La Trobe’s Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) or Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Industrial. With the program’s focus on hands-on learning and practical experience, students will be well-prepared to start a successful career in engineering.

The Diploma of Information Technology offers a pathway to a Bachelor of Information Technology with specializations in Software Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or Network Engineering. Offering a comprehensive curriculum in core IT subjects, upon completing, students could receive up to one year’s worth of course credit, known as advanced standing, which can be used to directly transfer into the second year of their chosen IT degree program.

To be eligible for the diploma programs, students must meet certain entry requirements that include having EDEXCEL/PEARSON/CAMBRIDGE / A Levels with three E passes or EDEXCEL/PEARSON/CAMBRIDGE /AS Levels with three B passes, or Sri Lankan A levels with three S Passes.

Alternatively, students can have GCE O/L plus PEARSON BTECH Level 3 Diploma or GCE O/L plus PEARSON HNC Certificate in Business/IT/Engineering. Additionally, all students must have a minimum B pass in English at GCE O/L OR IELTS 6.0. Meeting these requirements will ensure that students are able to enroll in the diploma programs and begin their journey towards obtaining an Australian degree qualification.

Students who enroll in the diploma programs in Sri Lanka will receive their letter of acceptance from La Trobe University from the first year, making their transfer to Australia from the second year seamless. Students may also be eligible for scholarships ranging from 20% up to 100% depending on their qualifications and extra-curricular activities undertaken at the school level.

Horizon Campus, the UGC-approved degree awarding institute, recently signed Memorandums of Agreement (MOA’s) with two prestigious universities in the Asia Pacific region, The Siam University (SU) and The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), based in Thailand, to offer engineering programs, specializing in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering, providing unparalleled value for money and considered to be the best investment in engineering education in Sri Lanka.

The MOA signing ceremony took place at the Horizon Campus Knowledge City in Malabe, with the presence of various key officials including Mr. Upul Dharanagama, Chairman of Horizon Campus, Mr. Ajitha Wanasinghe, CEO of Horizon Campus, Theo Fernando Managing Director of Horizon Campus, Ayesh Fernando, Director of Horizon Campus, Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, President of AIT, Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Executive Director of AIT and Prof: Nithin Kumar Thirpathy of AIT.

The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by Horizon Campus, Siam University, and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) has paved the way for Horizon Campus students to pursue some of the top engineering degrees available in Asia. This agreement provides an Integrated Bachelor’s program in Engineering that enables students to eventually transfer seamlessly into a Master’s degree program. Students will spend the first three years at Horizon Campus and the final year at Siam University and the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.

According to Ayesh Fernando, the Director of Horizon Campus, the institute has made a concerted effort to form partnerships with highly regarded institutions as part of their commitment to providing transformative learning experiences and empowering young people. He is confident that their students will derive significant advantages from the recently established MOA. “By co-creating international programs that foster a global mindset and a holistic student experience, which is central to our mission, “he said.

Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, President of AIT, also expressed his views on the partnership by highlighting AIT’s contribution to academic and research for over 64 years. Students based in Sri Lanka will have an opportunity to study Business, IT and Engineering at La Trobe University, Australia, without leaving their home country, as part of a new partnership with leading private university, Horizon Campus.

The students will commence a one-year diploma in Sri Lanka in August 2022, taught by Horizon Campus staff, but following the La Trobe syllabus and with the students enrolled at the Australian university. The diploma offers a potential pathway to undergraduate study at La Trobe in Australia.

La Trobe University Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar AO said the partnership reflects the University’s innovative approach to international teaching and learning. “This is a fantastic opportunity for Sri Lankan students to get a taste of Australian higher education, before they make the decision to move here to study and work,” Professor Dewar said. “After completing a diploma in their home country – taught by local lecturers – many students will then have an opportunity to transfer to one of our campuses in Melbourne or regional Victoria, to undertake an undergraduate degree.”

Horizon Campus Chairman, Mr Upul Daranagama, said the partnership would help Sri Lankan students improve their employability, and access high-quality Australian qualifications in their own country or pursue their dream of working and living in Australia at the end of the degree program.

“We are extremely proud to be entering into a collaborative partnership with a renowned university like La Trobe, and know our students will benefit immensely from the quality of the educational experience, exposure to another country, and the wide range of subjects they can undertake,” Mr Daranagama said. “I am encouraging interested students to seize the opportunity and take the first steps in achieving a degree in their choice of field, ”he added.

The first cohort of the program is proposed to commence on 29 August 2022 in all three fields of study, with two new cohorts commencing each year thereafter.

The students enrolling for the pathway program in Sri Lanka will have the benefit of receiving their letter of acceptance from La Trobe University from the first year, making their transfer to Australia from the second year seamless.  They may also be eligible for scholarships from 20% up to 100%.

Students also have the opportunity to save up to approximately 16 million by completing the first year in Sri Lanka and also experience the all-new, state-of-the-art campus premises at the Horizon Campus in Malabe.

The capacity forum of the Sri Lanka Association for Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM) has recently launched a university-level skill development initiative, encompassing all state and private higher education institutes. This initiative will promote collaboration between the industry and academia for the betterment of the IT sector, and enhance Sri Lanka’s next generation with the relevant skills to take the industry to the next level.

As a part of this initiative, SLASSCOM signed a University Cooperation Agreement with renowned higher education provider Horizon Campus, which is a leading private university in Sri Lanka, with more than 1200 students enrolling in their study programmes annually, which encompass Sri Lankan, UK, US, and Asian degrees that comprise of 15 accredited degree courses offered under five faculties.

“Signing this agreement with Horizon Campus is a very important milestone for SLASSCOM who is driven to produce future-ready talent to support the accelerated growth of the IT/BPM industry. SLASSCOM will support Horizon Campus to create IOI stakeholders of the future – a key differentiator for the industry, and a crucial endeavor to achieve SLASSCOM’s vision of growing the IT and BPM industry of Sri Lanka to generate revenue of USD 5 billion in exports creating 200,000 highly skilled workforce and facilitating 1,000 startups by 2025,”shared Immediate past Chairman of SLASSCOM Mr.Channa Manoharan.

The agreement also includes the support that SLASSCOM will provide in terms of curriculum design, where the chamber will appoint resource personnel from the industry to ensure that the university curriculum is up to date and tailored to suit industry requirements. Horizon Campus will also utilize SLASSCOM’s Future Careers Bridge platform to incorporate its professional framework to inculcate core professional skills in the students throughout their academic journey.

Listed as an approved university in the World Bank funded Sri Lankan Government operation Accelerating Higher Education Expansion and Development (AHEAD) programme, Horizon Campus is dedicated to contribute to research, mainly in the science stream.

“In addition to publishing research papers, we will be encouraging students to get involved with entrepreneurial research,” says Daranagama, adding that the university is keen to nurture and support entrepreneurship ventures via the campus’ inhouse Business Incubator which supports students with funding and mentorship.

With six fully equipped laboratories, an auditorium, multiple study spaces, a plant house, conference rooms, open library and a business incubation space, it will encompass multiple faculties that include Education, IT, International Programmes, Management, Science, Law and Technology. The new complex will also have interactive teaching, project-based instruction and authentic research experiences.

Additionally, it would contain a two-tower condominium complex catering to accommodate both students and lecturers; a housing complex with 65 single units; playground and communal walking paths, supermarkets, banks and retail spaces.

Through its innovative architecture and use of advanced technology, the new facility is built to encourage more integrated ways of working with students into the future.
